Do you ever have "who is she?" moments

I swear I've got to nearly 50 and still get quite excited when I simply adult in an efficient, thought out way. Rather than just muddling along.

Do you sometimes impress yourself with just how grown up you are. Because I still think I'm ohh 30.

Inspired by the cleaning tips thread. Which I could actually add to because - adult.

I have 3 brooms. For specific jobs. That work much, much better than having one rubbish one - which I muddled through with until this year when I thought fuck it there must be a better way.

I catch myself occasionally and go who do I think I am with my 3 brooms?

Sharpening the blades of the lawnmower a that was a high adulting point this year. That's the kind of thing people I want to be when grow up do.

Hanging pictures by measuring rather than just doing it (wonky) by eye

Actually owning a full set of picture hooks for every eventuality. That's me nowadays. I'm as surprised as anyone.

Disclaimer I have a reasonably serous job and mostly pass as an adult.

But I am shocked that I've finally turned into a 3 broom kind of person.

Who is she? Me apparently.

I think you only qualify as a grown up when your male partner has the equivalent amount of brooms.

So what are these three special brooms? I’m still in the ‘one shit broom’ stage 😂

TimelyIntervention · 23/09/2024 23:20

I have a special screwdriver set, that I have conveniently fixed to the inside of a cupboard door. I can always find the appropriate screwdriver for the task. Definitely an adulting high point!

Needanewname42 · 23/09/2024 23:22

Long story why but I now have hairdryers - does that make me an adult?

I've two hoovers and DH suggested a 3rd battery number the other day - I've had it in my head for 10 years when one of the others dies I'd get a battery one.

SpeedwellBlue · 23/09/2024 23:23

What are the broom types and what do you use to sharpen the lawnmower? Is it a manual one or electric with one spinning blade?

That's impressive. I can never find screw drivers.

no

I don’t own one broom and I’m mid 40’s…….. I don’t think I ever have…..

Shannith · 23/09/2024 23:39

@TimelyIntervention that's what I'm talking about. The planning, action, lasting convenience. The small joys of adulting.

So brooms <<cracks knuckles>>

Broom 1 - a yard broom - think strong bristles and a very wide head - double the width of a normal broom. Once you get the kind of short sharp and long sweep motion knack it makes mincemeat of paved areas. Used them for years on a (horse) yard before realising (very belatedly) it would work at home.

Broom 2 🧹 << also used by me on horse yards. A similar revelation at home. It gets into every corner and is amazing for dust/pet hair/crumbs. Really satisfying swish/flick sound amd motion. And looks cool. Cheap as chips. Lasts forever. Pisses all over leaves and pollen.

Broom 3 - essentially a long handled dustpan and brush. Apparently the world has known about these for ever but it's was news to me.

Some days, and today my have been one of those days, I line them all up in the shed and just admire them and their usefulness and that i prioritised their purchase over less useful but more obviously fun things.

looking at my brooms is fun and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
