A ring you can use like Google Pay?

My son hates carrying a wallet when he's out, and said he thinks he saw someone using a ring to tap and pay for something. He said it looked like a wooden ring.

Can anyone identify if this is what he saw, and if so, is the ring specific to a bank? Or a particular phone etc?

Would I need to know his ring size to get him one as a Christmas gift, or are they adjustable?

I'm going around in circles with my Google search

I don't know much about them so can't really help you choose one, but I've just googled "wooden ring contactless payment" and a long list of websites came up, so they are definitely a thing.

Yep, definitely still thing and been around a few years. It's the same as paying contactless on your phone. I rarely take my cards out anymore and just pay for anything on my phone.

Wooden rings can be very fragile, easily damaged ( bike/door handles etc)
But you can get wearable payment jewellery. What big it got lost and used by someone else etc? Can he not use his phone for paying

Certain smartwatches have this functionality. I have an apple one, a friend has a google one.

You used to be able to get pingit chips which were excellent, but that folded quite a few years back now.

Thank you. My clumsy Google attempts were just giving me Ring doorbell results 😂

You can link a card to the fitbit 6, it's really handy. I found it to be the cheapest of the smartwatchs with this function when I researched a few months ago.
