I'm so fed up with it. They are over packed, often smelly from people. On almost every journey there's a strong smell of weed. Always running late or missing out buses. A journey that takes 15 min by car takes 50 min by bus with changes .

I wish so much that i could drive . I failed my driving test in an automatic over 8+ times . I did have one lesson about 5 years ago but I almost ran over someone. I'm just not safe on the roads. So it's not meant to be . Im so pissed off with myself.

@Freeeeeeedom I'm London too. I actually think the buses (and the rest) is actually a pretty awesome service - lots of it, regular, fairly cheap.
It's just the people 😂

Look into intensive driving courses. Put your past experience firmly behind you. It will make you a more considerate driver which is no bad thing.

I think you could learn with a different instructor. My mum passed at around 40 on her 8th attempt (two lots of lessons spaced over 20 years). I passed on my 4th attempt at 36. My instructor taught a lady who was 70! Call some driving schools and ask if they have someone who works with older drivers/people who are struggling to pass.

My motivation was wanting to drive to work. My journey from south to west London was a nightmare on public transport (and this was 20 years ago). The car journey on an average day took the same time as public transport on a good day, but having my own space was the best bit!

My dd is having lessons . And her instructor was saying I should try . But he probably knows how much I have failed and wants my money 🤣

I think it is good bit at the same time it's not. It's OK of you have a choice of buses . And if they are empty 🤣

@Freeeeeeedom yep totally agree with you.
Wanted to chuck someone's phone out the bus window today. I don't want to listen to your shrieky programme. GET SOME HEADPHONES.
Biggest regret of my life was not learning to drive.

It's never too late to learn !! I am currently teaching my 77 year old neighbour. I have taught all the kids and my DH over the years and my neighbour is by far the best student I've ever helped to drive .

Bite the bullet and learn to drive.

Do automatic in a small car.

Have faith.

I passed my test 4th time at age 41- but I was never confident and don’t drive much now.

I think it’s a myth that everyone can be a confident safe driver -why on earth would that be the case? We’re all different

the answer is that public transport needs to be much better!

Needmorelego · 23/09/2024 17:13

@AboutVattime I couldn't afford the costs now unfortunately (lessons, buying a car, petrol, insurance, maintenance etc) 🙁
