5 year old ds broke out in hives this weekend and keep coming back

Can't understand what is affecting my ds but his back, Tummy & arms are covered in hives. It started on Saturday where just his neck had them, piriton sorted it out then Sunday morning he broke out all over with hives, piriton takes about 2 hours to get rid of them but they keep coming back.

The only new thing are some feather filled cushions which I've now put away and cleaned everywhere but he's coming out in hives again this morning 😩

Wash powder hasn't changed, nothing else so I'm completely at a loss as to what it is.

If you don't know what's causing them then he needs to be seen by a doctor.

Urticaria?

Definitely needs a doctor at that age.

Has he eaten anything different?
Have the ingredients of any prepared food you use changed?

When this happened to a child ds was at first school with, it was down to the batter from a particular chippy. (They put msg in it.). Took a long time to track that one down!

Hives are very common and not always caused by an allergy. They usually clear up as mysteriously as they arrived.

I'd use a modern antihistamine that lasts all day and doesn't cause drowsiness unlike Piriton.

Honestly haven't changed a thing. He was ok u til we came downstairs and they started flaring up again.

It's just alarming to see all over his little body.
Tried ringing the doctors but can't get through so I'm going to drive there with him shortly

My DS used to get this any time he had a virus eg cold or similar. They went away after a few days. He still gets them now occasionally and he's a big strapping teenager!

We had a similar episode with DS a couple of years ago. 111 said it was a virus and it eventually passed within a couple of days.

I’d ring and ask for advice or see if you can see your GP, just to put your mind at rest.

DS had this aged 6. A huge outbreak for a couple of days, then it went away and has never come back. GP said that in nearly 50% of cases they are unable to find a trigger and it could be a reaction to a virus. Having said that, if you suspect the feather filled cushions, I’d remove them from the house entirely.
