Found this by my house under a bush. Looks like a bird of prey. Should I report it to someone in case it's Avian Flu?

Its neck looks broken so probably not flu. It probably flew into a window hard?

LoobyDoop2 · 22/09/2024 14:05

Is its head missing? That’s quite an impressive catch for a cat. Maybe a fox?

Looks like a Goshawk. Can you see a ring on its leg? You could try reporting to the RSPB, they could probably sign post to your local Raptor/BoP monitoring group.

TheSpottedZebra · 22/09/2024 14:12

Do you live near an area with game shooting /gamekeepers?

outdamnedspots · 22/09/2024 14:15

Looks like a Sparrowhawk. Is it's head missing or there?

There's advice here: www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/wildlife/birds/injured#:~:text=If%20you%20find%20dead%20wild,to%20Defra%20via%20their%20website.

Report to Defra.

veritasverity · 22/09/2024 14:17

I'd be more concerned someone had poisned it, particularly if you live close to any pigeon fanciers.
DEFRA or RSPB should be able to give you advice.

It looks like a sparrowhawk. They're very impressive in the air but their near vision isn't great and their superpowers fade the closer they get to the ground. They seem to seek out windows to throw themselves at. My dad resorted to putting electrical-tape crosses all over the greenhouse to quell the carnage.

Yes it's head is there, bit manky but there. i think it must have flown into a window poor thing.
