When you start turning into your mother (just for fun)

I've just seen Princess Anne on the news, laying a wreath at Arnhem and heard a voice say "Oh dear, her slip is showing" and realised it was mine.

It's exactly what my late DM would have said and I haven't used the term "slip" in over 30 years.

Have you ever found yourself turning into your mother?

I used to laugh at my mums 'isms' said I'd never turn into her. Then she died and when I turned 40 I suddenly noticed not only did I look like her but I said things she said. I quite like it, she was a lovely human so I'm quite pleased to be like her.

This is a nice way to approach it. I always find it a bit sad when people say they try to hard not to turn into their mum. Surely there are worse people …

I’m doing everything I can to stop this happening.

I worry my mum is trying to turn into me… she’ll comment nicely on something I’m wearing and ask where it’s from because she’s ’been looking for something like that’. I have told her I’m not say, would she like it if my gran started wearing the same stuff she has?!

Yes, I cleaned my brother’s fridge when I recently stayed with him (unprompted) and folded his washing (again, not at his request).

I also have to fight the urge to leave for the airport obscenely early just in case we run into unprecedented traffic.

DH has told me quite frequently lately, "you know who you sound like"? The answer every time is my mum. She's a funny woman so I'm quite happy about it to be honest 🤪
