Air Purifier - any good?

Looking for tips/recommendations for a smallish air purifier please. Do they work? Are they loud? Are they expensive to run? How often do you need to change filters?

DS has just moved onto university form room and his eczema has flared up, so this has been suggested.

We had a large one a couple of decades ago and didn’t like it because it was loud and it seemed to attract dirt, but I think they have probably improved since then.

Any suggestions for specific ones also very welcome. I looked on Amazon but it’s flooded with those AI generated brand names with unrelated reviews, so no way to tell what’s actually any good.

I’ve found Philips and Russel Hobs ones not (and a very expensive Shark one), so at least have the option of known brands.

Not changed filters yet but cleaned them once

Oh blimey there is. The £50 does collect dust for sure as I see it on the filter. I was recommended it on an allergy Facebook page

Having done a LOT of research through the day, the IKEA one gets really good reviews for the price (only £29), so I’m going to start with that and see.

I have put one of the LEVOIT ones on my birthday list though, because I like that you can add fragrance to it 😊

I have a 5 year old Vax one which I find noisy. Looking to replace it now.

Can also recommend Levoit as a brand! I have pets which produce a lot of dust, and the air purifier has made a big difference to how much of this dust accumulates around the room they’re in. I hoover the filter weekly, but reckon it’d only be a monthly job without pets. Not had to replace the filter yet despite it being in use for several month. It’s very quiet on the lowest setting but makes noticeable noise when higher settings are on, so I only tend to use those when I’m not in the room.

The IKEA one has been great! So much so that we bought another couple of them for at home. It keeps the dust down but also makes the air quality much nicer. It smells like outside, even when the windows haven’t been opened.
