Do you leave your phone charger plugged in and on 24/7?

That's it really - phone charger plugged in at wall, with plug switch 'on' all the time, or would you switch the plug off when not in use?

I don’t turn the switch off for most things, charger, coffee machine, kettle etc

cerebuswannabe · 22/09/2024 07:04

Switch off when not using. Why risk over heating! I only leave my fridge, internet and cameras on all the time.

Underlig · 22/09/2024 07:07

Definitely not.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 22/09/2024 07:08

I pretty much never turn anything off at the wall.

Deathraystare · 22/09/2024 07:16

I take the plug out roo! Worried about fire risk.

Sourisblanche · 22/09/2024 07:27

Turn off at plug since my teen daughter’s phone charger started smouldering and burnt a hole in her dressing gown and teddy. Poor teddy still bears the scar.

I switch everything off now.

LittleBearPad · 22/09/2024 07:34

Yes. The cables plugged into usb sockets on the plug live there too

FrapGlart · 22/09/2024 07:47

Never, the switch is a behind a heavy chest of drawers so would be a nightmare to turn on and off all the time

Probablyshould · 22/09/2024 07:48

I always leave mine on. I switch off kitchen appliances etc before bed but chargers are on all the time.

You can trust the fridge though

Yes. I have USB sockets and the phone cable is always in

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 22/09/2024 08:39

Off at the wall when not in use (and monitored when in use tbh, definitely don't leave anything charging overnight). I don't like the idea of all that electricity just dangling there.....?!

Like, sockets are safe because of the three pin design, but once you've plugged a charger in haven't you removed that layer of safety? It feels different from a toaster/kettle where the cable is plugged into the appliance. I have young children and kittens though - maybe I'm more concerned than most people about pokey little fingers/chewing etc?!!

InandOutlander · 22/09/2024 08:52

Nah. I don't turn anything off at the socket

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/09/2024 08:54

I turn off the socket and generally unplug too. Especially when leaving the house

thereiscustardinthejamtart · 22/09/2024 08:57

Yes, it’s not pulling a charge if there’s nothing attached to it. It’s essentially “switched off” until you plug a phone in.

SnapdragonToadflax · 22/09/2024 08:57

I don't turn anything off at the wall unless we're going on holiday.

Clementine22 · 22/09/2024 08:58

Nooooo … that would freak me out

PussGirl · 22/09/2024 09:00

I switch off charging plugs at the socket but have some USB sockets that have cables in all the time. They don’t turn on or off.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/09/2024 09:16

Ours are always in the usb ports
