Tumble dryer close shave!

My husband went to start the tumble dryer this morning and it wouldn’t start, it made an odd noise. He tried restarting it again but again it didn’t start.
Suddenly there was an electrical smell and heat in the drum. We quickly pulled it out and the back of the dryer was so hot we could hardly touch it - we quickly unplugged it and put it outside.

Terrifying as we’ve just come back from holiday where our late teen daughter has been using the dryer all week - she would never have had the foresight to have checked on it and probably walked away from it.

Bloody hate the things but they’re a necessary evil. Are there better brands to buy that won’t burn? This was an Indesit.

Was your daughter emptying the fluff filters each time? Most common cause of TD fire. Also you should never leave TD unattended ( at night or going out). It tells you in instructions.

Yes it was fully clear of fluff - she knows that.

We always cleaned the fluffy from the filter after use. It's a Hotpoint, about 5 years ago,there was all the problems with Hotpoint and Indesit catching fire,a chap came out put some kind of guard in which was meant to stop fluffy getting through and onto the hot motor. When we tipped it to put it into the shed,a lot of fluff had still got through.

Well I’ve bought a Bosch Heat Pump dryer as a replacement as they are meant to be safer. It will probably take a bit longer to dry clothes but I’d rather that and have a less risky appliance in the house.
