Best sleeping option for occasional guests

We are thinking of converting our (downstairs) spare room to a second living room mainly for our teens to have their friends in rather than going up to their rooms which are pretty small. We’d put a sofa, tv, drinks fridge etc in there.

But that will leave us without a double bed for guests. We have people staying every other month or so. We’ve tried sofa beds before and they are pretty uncomfortable and not great for couples.

Can anyone recommend a really good air bed or folding bed that won’t take up too much room?

I'd get a proper sofa bed. I had one from DFS years ago, I liked the sofa and when ordering found they did a sofa bed version for a bit extra so went for that. It was a 3 seater sofa and folded out to a full size double.

I also at one point had an IKEA corner sofa, one of the modular ones that you can set up how you like. We got a large ottamon/footstool thing with it that when pushed up against the sofa made it like a double bed.

Tried many many airbeds and they are all crap. None of them ever stayed fully inflated all night.

We have an Intex full size and height double with electric pump. It stays firm for 3 days but then needs a bit of a top up. We've used it 5 or 6 times now and it's still going strong.

Ooh the corner sofa with an ottoman bit might be a good idea.
I’m quite reluctant to shell out a lot on another sofa bed which will be as uncomfortable as the previous (M&S) one.
