Standing desk and walking pad

Does everyone have this combo? I've just bitten the bullet and upgraded my setup for WFH as I do it full-time. It's week 1 of having my walking pad and I've done 15k steps every day, which is double my usual! I'm really pleased, I thought I might find it distracting but actually I find it easier to focus when walking for some reason (could be an ADHD thing).

One thing I've found is that it's putting some strain on my wrists, because the walking motion is pressing down a bit on them I think, so think I need one of those memory foam wrist supports or something.

I turn it off for meetings though so I'm not bobbing about and distracting folk!

Should be *anyone in first line. Clearly everyone does not have this!

I think it’s a good idea and use a standing desk at work but are you walking whilst typing?? I don’t think I could do that.

I am! I actually find it okay, it's not a fast walk, it's about 2.5km an hour the speed I use for working most of the time so I don't find it difficult (I go up if I'm just watching something or reading but it would be hard to type at faster speeds).

Maybe dictating or using voice controlled software like dragon would be better if walking. I’ve used a riser desk & saddle seat for years but I do my walking before and after work.

OP, would you mind sharing your desk and walking pad details please? My home office has just been decorated and I’m trying to choose furniture and want to go for the standing desk and walking pad combo!

Sure! The desk is a Desktronic one. They have a few different sizes. I have 3 monitors so mine is quite big. And it's a Z1 WalkingPad (that's the brand name). I got it from Amazon as it had a voucher at the time but they have their own website I think. There seemed a lot of them on the market but I'm quite happy with this one as it folds so I can store it under the desk and use it as a footrest when I'm not using it. And it links to my Apple health stuff to update the steps.

Are your elbows at a good angle? I had to adjust my desk a few times over my first week before I got it just right, then any aches disappeared.

Yes I probably do need some adjusting as I had it set up for just standing, but I'm obviously a bit higher up standing on the walking pad so there's probably some tweaking I need to do. My desk has 3 memory settings so I can do one standing, one walking and one sitting once I nail the position. Definitely less stiff and sore since I've been using this setup although I think my legs are confused!

Aim for a right angle. Hopefully it will reduce your strain!

I absolutely love getting my steps in without even thinking about it 😅 Enjoy!
