Alternative to cows milk

Determined to stop cows milk as I'm sure it makes me bloated and aggravates my skin. But I LOVE hot chocolate (x2 a day) and cereal every morning. What other milk still tastes good with Cadburys hot chocolate and cereal?! I'm allergic to oats so that ones out... Thanks.

Ewes milk but very hard to get. Also ewes milk cheese is lovely and more like a cow cheese than goat.

Coconut milk is nice with cereal. Have you tried soya milk? I take it in milk and coffee and find it quite acceptable as a dairy alternative.

I have felt so much better since giving p cows milk. I uses Almond milk in everything

poppyzbrite4 · 20/09/2024 15:11

I use Soy milk.

Almonds are not very environmentally sound (high water footprint) so go for soy milk. I use oat milk which is great, but as you are allergic to oats that isn't going to work. It is however disgusting in tea if you are a tea drinker,

I live in Spain and everybody here drinks oat milk, even tradesmen. I only ever get cows milk in when I have visitors from England.

Alpro My Cuppa is the closest taste to cows milk I've found.

I have gone dairy free recently and have found Soya milk to be almost indistinguishable from cows milk in tea- I have several mugs a day and with cereal . I havent tried it heated up but its cheap enough to give it a go . I get mine from Lidl/ Aldi and its 50p a litre on the ambient shelf.

What about Arla lactose free cows milk? It tastes just like regular cow's milk but no bloat as no lactose! I love it.

mochimoons · 25/09/2024 13:30

I also love coconut milk but hazelnut milk is incredible! I prefer it to cows milk.

artictern · 25/09/2024 13:31

Alpro chilled soya milk is my favourite. Cow’s milk tastes strange to me now.

Try lactose free first? That should help you work out if it's dairy or just lactose that's the problem.

This is a good idea!

I would also say if it turns out that the problem is cows milk protein (not lactose) then you should initially switch to coconut milk or almond milk because you might find that you are also sensitive to soy and goat milk as that is quite common for cross reactivity to happen with these milks. then after a couple of weeks if you're getting on better with coconut or almond milk you could give goat or soy a chance and see how you go.
