I have alternate taste and I like rock, metal
and alternate music.

I recently came across this cover of Zombie by the Cranberries being covered by Erin and the Rock Orchestra.

It’s an amazing cover. Deloris was one of a kind when it comes to this song, but damn with the orchestra backing her. Erin really did this song justice

The Sound of Silence - Disturbed

it's miles better than the original

Oh my god, I've read this so many times on Mumsnet and NO. Not only is it not better, it is shit. Singing like you have an impacted colon does not make a song more meaningful.

I really like “It’s My Life” covered by Gwen Stefani, originally by Talk Talk.

I also really like Sheryl Crow’s cover of “Sweet Child of Mine” (GNR’s) and her version of Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut is the Deepest”.

I also really like Ellie Gouldings version of “How Long Will I Love You”.

Roxanne by Henning May and Milky Chance, it's a favourite cover of mine.

Lose yourself by Kacey Chambers. She made Eminem's lyrics sound much deeper and more powerful with her soulful voice.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/09/2024 20:31

Also quite niche, but Pulp's cover of Rita Coolidge's All Time High

Moonlaserbearwolf · 20/09/2024 20:32

Stacy’s Mom by PMJ - so much better than the original.
Also love their versions of Creep, Don’t Speak and All about that Bass.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 20/09/2024 20:34

Carter USM did some great covers. Loved
Panic - The Smiths
This is how it feels - Inspiral carpets
Rent - Pet Shop Boys

The Script's cover of Lose Yourself for Live Lounge

Fugees No Woman No Cry (not better than the original but I do love it)

Completely agree, nothing beats the original of that song.

FleaDog · 20/09/2024 20:49

Look up Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, there some amazing covers, my favourites are:

Running up that Hill
There is a light that never goes out
Die young
Sorry
Dancing in the dark
Closer

The Philharmonic orchestra cover of Dancing in the dark is utterly lush

Listen to Williams-Fairey Engineerng Band album Acid Brass - pure brass band covers of 90s house music tracks that are mind blowingly good

Edit for typo

The original was shite.

It wouldn't take much to do better than that. All you have to do is put any emotion into it at all and it's already an improvement.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/09/2024 20:52

First Aid Kit's version of America by S&G is lovely.

Jonjojulie · 20/09/2024 20:55

Not even the full song, and not recorded, as far as I know, but Hannah Waddingham singing Let it go on Ted Lasso ... so much better than the original:

Jesus. That was awesome. SA are one of my favourite bands, and that’s one of my favourite PW songs.

Thx for brightening my day with that.

I love this one

So much better than the original

@RedHotChilliPreppers I love SA and was amazed I had never seen this before! Found it on YouTube one night and it's on repeat now (I downloaded it on Apple Music too)
