Bottled water

Reading that we shouldn't drink water from plastic bottles because it might be carcinogenic. We shouldn't drink it out of aluminium bottles because of Alzheimer's. What should we drink?!

Water from the tap in a glass. Neither plastic or aluminium bottles are going to kill anyone (except the planet). I have cancer and I bloody well didn’t get it from a plastic bottle. 🙄 But no one needs a constant supply of water with them at all times, unless you live in the Mojave. Just drink water from a glass.

I’d rather risk drinking water from a bottle than the chlorinated rubbish that comes through our taps! There’s always glass bottles as an alternative. My understanding of plastic water bottles is that they only become potentially carcinogenic when left out in hot places, like sitting in the car with the sun beating down etc.

Tap water is just as safe, if not safer than bottled water and not driving demand to produce disposable plastic bottles is, I think, the responsibility of all as they can be recycled indefinitely and those microplastics in everything from our water to breast milk will affect everyone's health.

OP if you do need to take a bottle of tap water with you, you can get glass bottles or stainless steel bottles, both of which are inert.

I think that bottled water is one of the biggest cons ever foisted on a gullible public.

Where are you reading this? As far as I am aware, plastic bottles can become dangerous if reused many times. But not before.

?

I’m not gullible, I just prefer to drink water that actually tastes like water, not chlorine. Our tap water used to be ok but unless you like drinking from a swimming pool it’s a no go nowadays.

I take it you’re one of those people that says all water tastes the same?

Peonies12 · 20/09/2024 12:50

Bottled water should be banned in countries with safe tap water. Appalling treatment of the planet. Drink tap water from a glass, or a metal bottle.

henlake7 · 20/09/2024 12:53

How are you tasting chlorine in your tap water?
Mine just tastes abit chalky as I live in a very hard water area (been drinking it long enough now that I kinda like the taste!LOL).

HauntedbyMagpies · 20/09/2024 12:55

Get a Virgin Pure machine! It connects to your mains water (so no refilling) and not only filters it, but chills or boils it for you on demand. It's a lot quicker than the kettle to boil and a cup of tea made from filtered water is like no tea you've ever tried!

Absolutely. I buy a bottle of water maybe 2 or 3 times a year if unexpectedly out for hours longer than planned and it's really hot. I have no idea why we have to faff about with school water bottles either and why they can't just get cups of water at lunchtime. Daft idea altogether.
