How to devide holiday bill

Dithercats · 20/09/2024 08:41

Situation is holiday booked and paid for by me. Invited 1 adult to come with me & kiddies. Price per person £1000

2 adults.
4 children
2 free kids places.
Total £4000

How much would the adult friend needed to pay?

£1000 price per person? So I then pay £3000
£666 price divided by all 6 holidaymakers? So I then pay £3333

Which is fairer?

Thanks

So all the kids are yours?

In which case the adult just pays their £1000?

Dithercats · 20/09/2024 08:46

Yes all my children

Are there four children in total - all yours? But two of them are free?

Then you & another adult with no children?

PenelopePitStrop · 20/09/2024 08:46

Would you have got 2 free kids places if it was only 1 adult going? In which case they should probably get a discount on the £1000 cost per person because they helped earn you a free child place.

Mindymomo · 20/09/2024 08:47

It’s your benefit that there are 2 free child places, not your friend, so they should pay £1,000 being an adult. Do you have an invoice, that should show adult price, so that’s what you should go by.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/09/2024 08:48

Other person should pay for themselves, that is £1000. Why on earth would you expect them to pay more than it costs?

Arlanymor · 20/09/2024 08:48

If you are getting the two free child places by virtue of having a second adult then they should benefit from this too, in which case £666 would be reasonable.

I don’t think she does. I think she’s asking if they should pay £666 or £1000.

Yes I think I think this.

You wouldn’t have got the second child place if the second adult wasn’t coming.

Smithhy · 20/09/2024 08:51

What is the difference in price between them coming and not coming?

That’s what they should pay.

Shinyandnew1 · 20/09/2024 08:51

£1000 price per person? So I then pay £3000

I would say that. The other adult shouldn’t be subsiding your kids.

Why are there two free children? Is that because there are two adults? What would you be paying for you and four kids without the other adult?

FawnFrenchieMum · 20/09/2024 08:52

Third option is you half the second free child benefit.

You pay £3167 and the adult pays £833.

That’s a win for you both, if your kids were not going she would have to pay £1k but without the second adult you wouldn’t have got the free place at all.

PenelopePitStrop · 20/09/2024 08:52

If it is 1 free child place per adult then their payment has saved you the cost of a child ticket. I would refund at least half of that to them.

If you would have got the 2 child free places without extra adult, then they pay the cost per adult.

If they are likely to assist with kids, do any childcare, have their holiday compromised by being away with 4 kids I would do whatever works out generously towards them!

Agree with this. They should pay the difference between them not coming and them coming - Did you get 2 free child spaces because there are now 2 adults?

ThirstyThursday · 20/09/2024 08:53

If I was the adult friend, I'd give you £1000. If that means you get a discount on the kids that's great!

Flatandhappy · 20/09/2024 08:53

If you only got the second free child place because two adults were going then it should be divided by six, ie £666. If you had two free child places anyway it would be fair for her to pay £1000 but I can’t imagine that you would have got two free child places for one adult as it is usually one per adult.

SoupDragon · 20/09/2024 08:54

Why would they pay anything other than the £1000 per person given they are one person?

autienotnaughty · 20/09/2024 08:54

£1000 is the pp cost so I would go with that

Arlanymor · 20/09/2024 08:57

Yep I agree, that’s a better calculation.

Lovelysummerdays · 20/09/2024 09:05

Is the other adult going to be sharing a room with your children? Is it a relative? I have four kids and tbh I’d probably offer to pay the full amount and then kindly relative would make it up by buying dinners and things.

You could just be honest with them, holiday was £4k came with two free child places so …and let them decide.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 20/09/2024 09:30

You say price per person £1000? What in the breakdown of adult and child prices? The child prices will presumably be less than adult?

Dithercats · 20/09/2024 20:23

The price per person is £1000. There is no child price. 2 free child places with 2 adults.
The other adult will share a 2 bedroom apartment with 1 17yr old.
No childcare needed from the other adult.

Obviously the £1,000?

Definately less than the full £1000 if them coming saves you a child place (or two) plus they're sharing with your child. I'd say £666 per person seems fair.

DontBiteTheCat · 20/09/2024 20:37

If you only got the second free child place because they’re coming then they should only pay £666.
