I'm watching Yes Minister on DVD, not much changes does it! 😂 So much seems relevant today.

Where are you all watching it? I looked for it recently and could only find crappy half versions on YouTube. Haven’t had a dvd player in years sadly.

I rewatched it on BritBox a while ago.
BritBox has now become part of ITVX so you can watch it on there with a paid subscription, even though it was a BBC show!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/09/2024 09:18

IMO it was the cleverest and funniest series ever.
Nothing anything like as good since! 🙁

Though I will make a partial exception for The Detectorists - we thoroughly enjoyed that.

The one where they took the key off Humphrey.

He resorts to knocking on the patio window full of indignation. The funniest scene ever.

ShrubRose · 21/09/2024 16:05

I loved the one where they're preparing Hacker for his TV appearance. So funny.

murasaki · 21/09/2024 16:15

'Courageous decision, Minister' is frequently used in our house when we think the other one is about to do something stupid.

NorthWestWise · 21/09/2024 16:17

I showed my DC the but where they show how you can influence the results of a survey. I remember seeing that when I was about 10 and I had always remembered it.

Always looking for new things to watch with the teen DC, DS1 is very into politics so I think he’ll enjoy this, thanks for the reminder.

I worked in Private Office in the 80s and whilst I’m aware of Yes, Minister I don’t think I’ve ever seen a full episode

Binglebong · 21/09/2024 16:56

Yes Prime Minster is currently being shown, I think on bbc4 but if you use search on your remote it should find it.

TheSandgroper · 21/09/2024 17:09

I didn’t know there was a radio version. I will make a start.

If you can get your hands in the books, do. They are written as Hacker’s or Bernard’s published diaries so include little asides about each experience as, being a diary, they are written after the event. Conversations between Humpy and Jumbo, for example, are actually memos written on House of Commons notepaper. Dorothy Wainwright’s book, that she wrote after leaving government employment, gets a few pages included. Also pithy comments added in from the editor.

Screamingly funny, of course. And so very clever. Every time we have a change of government in Western Australia, I pull them out for another read so I can follow the steps being taken. Nothing has changed.

Edited for sleepy spelling.

I just watched The Death List from series 2 again. I so love it when Jim goes into Churchill mode! 😆

Tezza1 · 22/09/2024 05:50

@Waterboatlass There was a remake in 2013, but it only lasted six episodes.

I didn't know it existed until several years after it was made, and don't even know if it was shown here in Australia, where the originals were incredibly popular.

Yes, Prime Minister (TV Series 2013) ⭐ 5.4 | Comedy

30m | 12

Ah I didn't know there was a radio version or a more recent one! Will have a look for both!

Yes the beauty is that the original format and topics still stand but I meant it would be nice to see that demonstrated with 40 years' worth of references and examples

Same here!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/09/2024 07:46

The tv and radio, old and new are all brilliant. Always topical!

HarrietBond · 22/09/2024 07:53

I still love it but after working in similar environments for a long time I now often sympathise with Sir Humphrey over Jim. I wonder if I am broken inside.
