We’ve ripped up all our stair/landing carpets because they were looking very sad. We have three cats who love a good biscuit-making session, one of whom is very prone to hairballs! Our house is bloody cold so our original plan of wooden flooring is out the window.

Any recommendations please for very durable carpets?! No loop carpets as those are a nightmare with cats!

If you could invent one you'd make a fortune as I don't think they exist!

The only thing I think may work is carpet tiles .
They tend to be very short or cord type but are not particularly nice to walk on and may end up looking like a office.
You could get a big rug as well that way it will be easier to replace if it gets damaged.

If you cats claw / make biscuits with your current carpet save a big piece and make your own scratching post for them .
It's definitely saved my new carpet doing this.

You have my sympathy re the cold house I have got concrete floor and thru lounge and open plan stairs.

The house is a swine to heat !
Half of my lounge is the thickness laminate I could buy , the other half is carpet and rugs .
