My daughter found this just on her duvet.
Her room is quite cluttered.... I'm going to steel myself to go look for more.

But what is it?? Why is it there?? Can I make them go away??

Looks like an earwig to me.

spiderdave · 19/09/2024 18:31

Looks like a devils coach horse beetle to me.

Haroldwilson · 19/09/2024 18:32

I wouldn't freak out about that, it's just a bug come in from outside not an infestation type bug.

Milkandacookie · 19/09/2024 18:39

Ah phew thankyou both. I'm terrified of bedbugs at the moment (I know this isn't one) so can't cope with another "thing"!

If that was a bedbug you'd need to burn the house down.

It's an earwig.

Milkandacookie · 19/09/2024 18:53

I am also worried about bed bugs as have been in contact with someone and reading stories about bed bugs is terrifying. We haven't spotted one yet though so hoping my bites are coincidence....

But this was something else and about to send me over the efge!

An earwig or devil's coachman, bit blurry to see for sure. There seem to be loads of earwigs at the moment.

MeinKraft · 19/09/2024 18:56

Just an earwig. I had one come in on my duvet cover that had been hanging on the line last week.

BeachRide · 19/09/2024 18:58

Tell her it's a beetle that nests in mess and she needs to get tidying ASAP before the eggs hatch ...

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/09/2024 18:59

Earwig.

FictionalCharacter · 19/09/2024 19:01

Definitely an earwig, brought in from the garden on clothes or shoes. Harmless, and absolutely nothing like bedbugs which are much much much smaller.

Button28384738 · 19/09/2024 19:02

It's not a bedbug

Milkandacookie · 19/09/2024 19:12

Yes I'm aware it's not a bed bug I've been googling them far too much!
@BeachRide I like your thinking...

Earwig. Devil's coachman are wider and blacker.

Earwigs DO NOT crawl into ear but are marvelous mothers.

Milkandacookie · 20/09/2024 18:45

Thanks. Thankfully there weren't any others so don't need to worry about infestation!!

How good are we talking? Maybe they need their own advice section on Mumsnet.

GreenGodiva · 22/11/2025 15:31

if her bedroom is a shit tip, get some black sesame seeds and sprinkle them in small piles. Tell her she has mice. Worked a treat for my lazy arse teenager.
