Weight loss injections - what happens when you come off?

Those of you who have lost weight on injections and have come off them, have you been able to maintain your weight? Logically weight should stay off with a maintenance diet unless one overeats because one's appetite comes back with a rage. Why would would weight after these meds be any different from gaining after a normal diet?

I keep hearing that you have to expect to stay on at least a low dose forever which sounds bonkers. Just curious about personal experineces.

This question keeps being asked and there don't seem to be many answers. Some say they will be on it for life, and others think they can do without it. I think it's probably a little too early to know.

There’s several studies all saying slightly different things I believe.

MN is uk based. People in the UK haven’t been taking them for long periods just for weight loss. So I think here on MN you won’t find many that have been in maintenance for a long period.

Online though you can find quite a few people. Some stay on a maintenance dose. Just like many people have to stay on blood pressure medication or anti depressants for life.

Some people slowly come off it and maintain. Some people come off and put it back on.

It’s not a magic bullet. You can’t take it and then get thin and then go back to old eating habits. You have to work at creating new habits if you want to come off it eventually. If you go back to old eating you will put the weight back on. That’s no secret. That’s the same for ever diet/eating plan ever.

Staying on it or coming off it is a very personal choice.

Muscle mass is lost too, equally or more so than fat if not hitting gym & eating right. Problematic going forward for maintenance.

I don’t really understand why this is a surprise. The vast majority of people who have got to the stage where they need medical help with their weight are there because of their rubbish diet and lack of exercise and the cause of that is anything from horrific trauma to simply preferring the taste of crap food and not enjoying exercise. Until those issues are addressed, the injections are just a sticking plaster.

What happens is it all goes back on

I imagine it's similar to anyone who has done weight watchers, slimming world etc

Once you come off it, most people will slip into old habits and gradually the weight will creep back on?

Why is it bonkers to stay on a life-saving, life-altering medication permanently?
