In need of comforting TV recommendations

Had some horrible shock news this morning and feeling very sad. What are your go to TV shows/films for a bit of comfort viewing? I am actually logged on working (doing the bare minimum it must be said), but wanted something on in the background to keep my mind calm.

Thanks all.

So sorry to hear you have had a difficult morning and a shock, do you have people you can talk to? My go to shows are Downton Abbey and the Good Place. Mrs Harris goes to Paris is also great fluff/comfort viewing

The detectorists, Mortimer and whitehouse go fishing, call the midwife (I don't know why I find that comforting as it always makes me cry)

BurntOrangeAutumn · 19/09/2024 14:20

Sorry about your sad news 💐
I like the gilmore girls & friends too.

JaneFondue · 19/09/2024 14:21

Grace and Frankie

Isthisjustnormal · 19/09/2024 14:22

All creatures great and small (channel 5 version) is the ultimate low peril tv. Sorry you are having a difficult day.

StormingNorman · 19/09/2024 14:22

Midsummer Murders. 23 seasons so will keep you going for a while!

NoahsTortoise · 19/09/2024 14:22

Definitely second Detectorists, also The Durrells.

IsThisATrickQuestion · 19/09/2024 14:22

Sorry you've had bad news OP 💐
Gavin & Stacey would be my choice.

ThereIsAlwaysWine · 19/09/2024 14:22

Doc Martin

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 19/09/2024 14:24

Yet another vote for the Detectorists. And the fishing programme with Bob Mortimer.

RogueFemale · 19/09/2024 14:25

Another vote for Mrs Harris.
Similar one is Ladies in Black
Fantastic Mr Fox
Rushmore
Groundhog Day

Second that

SingingSands · 19/09/2024 14:38

You are all so kind, thank you Flowers

These are all wonderful suggestions and I am switching on All Creatures - had completely forgotten how much I loved this, it is the perfect comfort TV.

Schitt's Creek and Poirot for me. I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time, OP.

spikeandbuffy · 19/09/2024 15:01

@SingingSands the new season actually starts tonight on channel 5 if you need a bit more

Dunkler · 19/09/2024 15:06

Is Early Doors still on iplayer? OP if you have a northern bone in your body you will love it. A piece of better largely unknown situation comedy packed full of pathos you will not find.

DontBiteTheCat · 19/09/2024 15:08

I’m so sorry OP.

Schitt’s Creek and Grace and Frankie are really gentle and funny x
