What's up with my spooky windows?

I was out last night and came home around 11.30. The sitting room windows appeared to have a chalky film on them and when I have zoomed the photo closer there is a weird pattern visible. I have never seen this on my windows.

I've attached three pictures. Two with the weird substance in the them and one of it and one looking entirely normal this morning.

What on earth is it? If I hadn't taken photos I would have thought that I'd overdosed on Prosecco and been hallucinating!

Isn’t it because the window cleaners use a product that allegedly repels dirt and this is what it looks like when windows are cold?

This is possible. I'll ask when they are next here.

Can I just say I have no idea but I'm extremely upset that you have spooky windows and I don't. I will have to paint mine as the hare ate last year's lights but I'm going to end up redoing them every other bloody day because of the rain and can't do the inside in case he licks the paint off. Feel free to send your spooky windows here!

Do you have a pet hare? I will swap you my spooky windows for your pet hare.

That looks like a knitted pattern. I reckon a beanie, because of the way it point to the centre in a perfect circunference.
I think someone, likely a child (it looks small) pressed a knitteditem (like a beanie) on your window, a while back...
There was dust or condensation (p a combo of both) on the outside of your window ( the outside would make more sense, but maybe is from the inside? One of your children looking out?), so you could see the pattern. The little black dots could be actual fingerprints.

BasilParsley · 19/09/2024 18:05

Do you, or did you, have a dream catcher anywhere near the window? The shape looks very much like that..

ApolloandDaphne · 19/09/2024 18:08

No children with beanies peering in and no dream catchers. It's just very odd. The weird white film seems the most odd to me. I've never seen that before although we sometimes get condensation on the outside but I've only ever seen that in daylight.

How long have you been there? Maybe the last owners had kids and patterned window film at one point.

We put the windows in two years ago. No children have been in our house or garden since that time.

Ooh spooky 👻 !
I hope you haven't cleaned them off OP.
You'll have to see if they're still there tonight!
Are they visible now in broad daylight?

They look sparkly clean in daylight. There is a photo in my OP. I will look tonight but they don't normally look like that in the dark. I never close my blinds so I would have noticed before.
