I am no longer scared of spiders - there is hope for you as well

For some reason I have totally lost my fear of spiders. I used to have a fear so bad that I would feel like I was going to vomit if one appeared.

For some reason, they now just don't really bother me. I don't love them. But now, if I see one I just leave it where it is because I know it's not trying to chase me around the house. It will usually disappear and I don't see it again.

I put it down to better mental health but who really knows.

I've got a bit better than I was. I'm not over my fear but I can put a glass over a big one and throw it outside. I can deal with small ones but not big ones.

Have you heard about the huge spiders in the UK?

NoKnit · 18/09/2024 12:36

For me it was a case of having to give birth in a country where pain relief is not necessarily given and you get fobbed off.

I realised then there were bigger things to be scared of than spiders 🤣

Devilsmommy · 18/09/2024 12:49

Before I had my little one I couldn't get anywhere near one. Since having him I can now get close enough to suck them up into the hoover😅

PortiasBiscuit · 18/09/2024 12:50

Don’t suck them up in the bloody hoover, these are living creatures ffs, hi would you like it?

Wtf?

I hate spiders, but I would never suck them up in the hoover ffs. They’re living creatures. That’s just messed up.

GunLovingPatriot · 18/09/2024 12:54

I wish this had happened to me, instead I had to do the friendly spider afternoon at the zoo to overcome my phobia. Which I highly recommend.

Isn’t this how psychopaths get started, by harming animals?

You can't hate them that much then 🤷 I'm fucking terrified of them so sorry but I physically can't put a glass over one and take it outside

Yes my arachnophobia makes me a psychopath 🙄

newyear2024 · 18/09/2024 12:58

I've also had a change of heart with spiders. There are a number of those big brown spiders with a spotty cheetah type print on their abdomen living in my bin shed. I was terrified at first because they are big & their webs look like hammocks 🕷 but then realised they solved my fruit fly/regular fly problem in the bins,, there were so many over the summer and now they are gone! So I am happy for them to stay. But I won't be putting the bins out myself 🤣

No sorry, I do. I’m terrified of them. I’ve cried in the past. I’ve literally MOVED HOUSE due to the amount of spiders that would come in. I shake, my heart races, I dread them.

But I would never suck them up in a hoover. As much as I hate them, I couldn’t bring myself to just outright kill them. That’s psychopath behaviour.

You can get spider catchers. You catch them and put them outside.

As I said to pp my arachnophobia obviously makes me a psychopath 🙄

How close am I going to have to get to catch it?

That's not quite what they said though, is it? They highlighted the well documented connection between animal cruelty and psychopathy; they didn't say there was a connection between arachnophobia and psychopathy. Plenty of arachnophobes don't harm spiders.

Endica1 · 18/09/2024 13:06

Putting house spiders outside is just a slower death than hoovering them up - my advice is don’t look up into the corners of your house or move any furniture until about November.

Failing that, get a dog. No spiders below (dog) head height

I don’t think you understand. The psychopath behaviour is in connection to your willingness to kill animals. Nothing to do with your arachnophobia. Plenty of people with arachnophobia do not kill animals (myself included).

Killing a spider is not on the same level as torturing puppies and kittens is it🙄

I dunno, perhaps it starts with eating their dead flesh 🤔

GunLovingPatriot · 18/09/2024 13:13

Spiders are small furry animals, in that way they are exactly like puppies and kittens. This fact really helped me get over my fear, I also had hypnosis and graded exposure therapy which is all part of the friendly spider program at London Zoo.

I know arachnophobia isn’t psychopathy, I took extreme measures too before I had treatment.

Jeez that’s a reach. It’s perfectly normal to have a fear of - and want to get rid of - all creepy crawlies. They are insects not animals.
