Crippling self confidence - can you overcome this?

The last few months my self esteem has plummeted. I'm making mistakes at my job, asking silly questions, and feel silly in return. Feel like a laughing stock, cannot make conversation, my anxiety is through the roof and my work is killing me.

I think a lot of it is I'm now working with a project manager who is belittling and makes me feel fucking stupid. She laughs at things I say and I try to brush it off, and I think it's actually having an effect on my confidence within work. She speaks to you like you are stupid when asking her a question and I'm constantly doubting myself, for example, when I think I know the answer to a question shes asked me, I will second guess myself then get into a panic and say 'I' don know' and my memory has become worse and worse I think because of this.
I think perhaps the change of teams in my workplace and the fact I simply do not get along with this colleague has had a huge impact. I've never made so many mistakes before and the way she works doesn't work for me, it's her way or not way.
Other colleagues have noticed the way our project manager acts and speaks to people, me especially and I'm starting to really feel down.

She's bullying you and it's not your fault. No one should laugh at you or belittle you at work. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

Do you belong to a union? If not, phone ACAS for advice on how to handle it. I would start keeping a diary of her behaviour, include witnesses and evidence like emails.

Look in your staff handbook on their policies and take it from there. In the case of bullying I always advise to get another job as it can be so detrimental to your mental health.
