Someone in my dds life is telling her they are just about to join the army.

They have said its next month but they haven't got a date yet for joining.

The whole thing just seems a bit sketchy to me.

I've known people join the marines and RAF and they have always had a date pretty early on and know what they are doing and where they are going and what they need.

This guy has, apparently, around 2 weeks to go and no information not even a date.

Is this how the army does things?

My nephew joined the army 3 years ago. He was given the date about 4 months before. He was told where he would be doing the basic training, a list of the kit he needed to bring etc
There were a lot of medical checks too before he joined.

Thank you.

This guy is quite clearly lying then.

There's been no medical and he's apparently in touch with someone and they keep saying 'soon', it didn't sound right to me at all.

I thought there were only 2 or 3 set dates per year for joining up.

There are much more than "2 or 3" intakes into the army each year. Your wait depends on the specific role you are enlisting for. Priority roles in the armed forces can indeed have rapid starts.

There are a lot of medical things needed before they tell him a date. Medical records from his GP etc. they are very strict. I would ask him what role he's applying for, what regiment etc, see if you can catch him out!
