Titan Submersible

Why have BBC News built a 'life sized model' of the submarine in the studio ? Confused

Surely we can follow what they are saying without so much time and money being wasted?

Maybe they had the model before the thing imploded? Do you know how much time and money was "wasted" on the model?

NewName24 · 17/09/2024 00:03

No, I don't know the figure, but clearly more than if they hadn't built it.

A couple of hundred quid's worth of plywood and sheet plastic, knocked together in a few days by their props department.

Defund the BBC!

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 17/09/2024 02:14

Frankly, there's better coverage on a number of YouTube channels than anything I have seen on the BBC so far.

GrandHighPoohbah · 17/09/2024 05:17

Isn't it CGI? I don't think it's an actual model.

It's an actual model. Nice to see it with a woman standing nearby for an idea of the actual size.

What's known about recovered Titan parts... in 77 seconds

The BBC's Rebecca Morelle looks at a 3D model of the doomed submersible that left all five passengers dead.

This.

Looks CGI to me.

DreamW3aver · 17/09/2024 07:08

It doesn't quite look real but she did say life size model in the clip

Seeing iit like that just makes me wonder why anyone thought it was a good idea to get inside it in the first place

MouseofCommons · 17/09/2024 07:09

That's CGI.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 17/09/2024 07:10

Definitely CGI.

Latenightreader · 17/09/2024 07:10

If it was real, wouldn’t she have been closer, walking round and pointing directly to the parts?

MissEloiseBridgerton · 17/09/2024 07:13

That is 100% CGI! She would definitely have been more interactive with it if it was a real model.

I don't know whether it is real or CGI, but the reason will be to help people understand the actual size.

thebluemask · 17/09/2024 07:14

Whatever it is, it's bigger than I thought.

DCINightingale · 17/09/2024 07:16

That is CGI 100%. She casts shadows, the massive sub doesnt

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 17/09/2024 07:18

FYI, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park aren't real either op.

There’s nothing in the world you could offer me to induce me to get into that thing. People are crazy.

FiveStoryFire · 17/09/2024 08:06

Definitely CGI.

PinedApple · 17/09/2024 08:15

Don't tell OP that creating cgi also costs money Grin

1apenny2apenny · 17/09/2024 08:42

Look OP it's CGI and even but wasn't the Blue Peter team could knock it up in about 2 minutes, you've obviously not heard of double sided sticky tape either 😉

Kitkat1523 · 17/09/2024 09:09

There’s a shadow from the lady but not from the model

Nothing could get me in a normal submarine, let alone into this. End of the world zombies, nope I'd rather stay up top and risk getting eaten then entombed in the depths.

MouseofCommons · 17/09/2024 07:09

No, they have explicitly said on the program (more than once) they have a life sized model in the studio.

Which is why I thought it so odd - it came across like they are really proud of it.
