Hello what is there to do around this area please, we will definitely stop in Canterbury but I'm wondering if there is anything else to see? Special villages or nt properties?

The cathedral in Canterbury is stunning and a punt down the river is worth doing. You’ve got Leeds castle on the way down, Dover Castle, Walmer Castle, Howletts & Wingham, McArthur Glen outlet in Ashford, The Hythe miniature railway, Dungeness (the UK’s only desert, the listening ears, a nature reserve and rspb centre). There’s Alpaca walking in New Romney and boat trips out to sea.

Paul O Grady did a series about Kent and lots of the places above are featured. Definitely worth a look.

Also, there are villages everywhere. Chilham is very pretty and not far from Canterbury.

If you come into Canterbury (use the park & ride or train rather than parking) try the Westgate end of town - lovely gardens, the Westgate towers & historic jail. You can also take a river tour from there. Nearby are other historic buildings.

Herne Bay is an alternative to Whitstable, especially if you're there for the beach more than the shops. If you go as far as Margate you get sand, and the Turner Contemporary.
