DM has COVID - shocked at how quickly it's spread

Shocked at how quickly it's affected DM.

DM is 70, very frail and not in the best of health. She often gets UTI every other week, and is generally poorly.
Left home at 9:30pm she was fine, complaining that she felt she had an UTI.

At 8:00am the next day, I got a call from DF that DM was very unwell. When I got their at 9:00, she was almost unresponsive, just barely grunting, and didn't have the energy to move or talk.

We called 999 and she was admitted into hospital and was later diagnosed with COVID. She is still unwell but is on antibiotics and being looked after.

Does COVID spread that quickly? At 9:30pm she was fine, just feeling unwell; at 4:30am the next day she asked DF for some water and she was alert and well enough to walk to the bathroom. How did she get so ill by 8:00am?

I’m sorry to hear your mum is so ill. It sounds as if she isn’t in very robust health and is vulnerable to infections so that is probably why. I hope she recovers soon.

Ime underlying health issues escalate it massively.... Hope for a speedy recovery for your dm op.

My Mum had signifigant under laying heath issues. At 6.30 she got up and walked to the toilet and my sister gave her two paracetmol, when I checked on her 3 hours later she was like your Mum.

If your Mum is on antibiotics she must also have bacterial infection.

Everyone’s immune systems age, whether they have underlying health problems or not. Older people do not have as strong an immune response to vaccination either. That’s why the older age group is more vulnerable to Covid across the board.

I hope your mum recovers with the treatment she is receiving.
