I'm currently in my 3rd S-F week stay in a premier inn.

1st week i forgot nail Polish and remover so had chipped nails not the end of the world.
2nd week I forgot my vape charger luckily was next to big Tesco so bought another.
This week there are no shops around and I've forgotten my hairbrush. I stole a fork from the restaurant so will use that.
What stupid things on trips have you forgotten.

Picturing Ariel now Grin worst thing for me was years ago, travelled to meet friends for a big night out, arrived at the hotel to find one shoe missing from my case. I had to wear the converse trainers I travelled in. It was a revelation and I've never looked back! Nobody cared at all and my feet were comfy all night. I think I accidentally started the whole 'trainers for going out out' look that seems to be the thing nowadays.

DH forgot his shirt and cufflinks for a wedding as assumed I'd put them in his suit bag!

It was a remote part of Scotland with only a tiny corner shop nearby. He borrowed a shirt from groomsman and somehow fashioned cufflinks from 2 of my hair ties and earrings!

I travel every other week for work.

In the last year I’ve bought:

8 hairbrushes
3 electric toothbrushes
13 manual toothbrushes
7 door wedges
4 reusable coffee cups
3 reusable water bottles
8 iPhone charging cables
2 sets of AirPods.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Now I have a case packed that doesn’t get emptied when I get home (apart from clothes).

shellyleppard · 16/09/2024 19:41

I usually forget my hairbrush or toothbrush. Once I thought I had forgotten my medication but it was in another pocket in my bag 😳😳

FuckMeUpFlorida · 16/09/2024 19:42

I live abroad for the most part, in a hot country.

I once went back to the UK for a visit in November, landed and realised I hadn't packed a coat.

After buying one, I also realised that I hadn't packed any socks either.

That was a chilly start to my trip!

yeesh · 16/09/2024 19:44

I once forgot my passport, had to drive 2 hours home from the airport to get it 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Cuwins · 16/09/2024 19:45

Not me but my sister once went on an outdoor activity holiday in the UK without any socks.

Gandalfsdaughter · 16/09/2024 19:48

My dd13 went on scouting camp and forgot shoes - she got into the car on her socks and had no footwear with her whatsoever 😂

Booksandwine80 · 16/09/2024 19:49

Mine is also a brush, but on my wedding night. Woke up in the morning to the aftermath of curls/pins/hairspray and no brush 😆
Luckily a friend had stayed over in the same hotel so I messaged to beg her to bring me a brush 😂

Bluebellsinthewind · 16/09/2024 19:51

Once arrived in Naples and discovered, I had no pants. Luckily shops were close to the hotel. Unluckily they only sold big pants. I was younger/slimmer/trendier then.

Nowadays it's all about the comfort of the big pants Grin

That has to be something that only a 13 year old could do!!

When my children were very little my parents invited us to a week's holiday in Scotland, driving up from Dorset. We stayed at their house the night before. On the day we left my father told me that he would bring our suitcases down to the car. He didn't bring down the suitcase with all the children's things in, (and he wasn't the kind of man who appreciated being checked up on) so we ended up in Scotland for a week with nothing at all for the children to wear. I had no money at all (hence going on holiday with my parents) and my father was not generous with 'housekeeping' money for my mother and did not think it was his fault that he hadn't put the children's suitcase in the car, so would not help out.

We ended up going to Woolworths in the nearest town and my mum bought my children one outfit and a swimsuit each. Every evening we walked to the 'laundry' and hand washed their clothes so that they had something to wear the next day.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 16/09/2024 19:58

That sounds horrible @DilemmaDelilah what a mean man!

I once left my swimming costume at home, managed to make sure everyone else had packed everything of course. Got one from Tesco.

DD once forgot to pack PJs, but could make do with leggings and a T-shirt for the night.

Once when packing in a rush (after a parent was taken ill) I forgot to take any medication with me - no lasting damage but meant I felt even more awful than I already did in due to circumstances.

I regularly forget pyjamas (don’t wear them at home but on holiday I’m often sharing a room with DS or even DM, so can’t sleep naked). I do own a couple of pairs, just don’t ever think to pack them.

I forgot my glasses when wearing daily disposable contact lenses, and only realised once I’d chucked the lenses away. We’d driven down, and I was the only driver. Luckily DH’s glasses prescription is close enough to mine that I can read a car number plate/drive legally wearing his, but two people sharing one pair of glasses for a weekend was pretty ridiculous.

DilemmaDelilah · 16/09/2024 19:59

I have a 10 yr old grandchild who stays with us occasionally, and whose mother allows him to pack for himself. On his last stay he had no pyjamas, no clean underwear, no toothbrush, no clean clothes for the next day. He had packed a stuffed toy and a book. Luckily I am used to it by now and had some spare underpants and a toothbrush. Nothing else was really important!

rickyrickygrimes · 16/09/2024 20:02

@Gandalfsdaughter

snap! I came in to say that a couple of years ago DS got into the car with his slippers on… I’d assumed he had his trainers on! So he only had slippers and welly boots with him. We were camping so ended up driving back into the nearest big town to find a decathlon so we could buy some cheap trainers 🤦‍♀️

0psiedasiy · 16/09/2024 20:09

I usually forget medication or glasses or contact lenses

seven201 · 16/09/2024 20:19

I went for a weekend visit to a friend's house. Left my clothes in a pile on my bed at home, just took my slippers and toiletries somehow. Had to borrow everything, including pants. She was two dress sizes smaller than me!

redhatpurplehair · 16/09/2024 20:20

Shoes. On my honeymoon. I had one pair of peep toe slingbacks.

I bought a pair of flip flops and lived in them for a week.

We didn't have enough money to buy another pair!

Stressedgiraffe · 16/09/2024 20:27

Brilliant these are making me feel better.
Will be interesting doing my hair after a morning shower!

We once forgot The Hungry Caterpillar book, essential for bedtime, staying in a quaint seaside town and had to pay a fortune for a every page hard copy in some fancy independent bookshop (which we didn't mind supporting just galling it was a book we had 450 miles away). We could recite it FFS but that wasn't the same

Spenditlikebeckham · 16/09/2024 20:28

Took odd sandals for an evening meal out.. Had to wear Crocs....

landris · 16/09/2024 20:45

Last holiday I forgot my hairdryer, DH forgot his pyjamas.

On Saturday I was out all day at a hobby workshop and I forgot my lunch.

One year we were going away for a week and DH packed the car. Have you packed all the bags, I said. Oh yes, he said. He left a bag containing his shoes, trainers & walking boots behind and had to make do with the scabby canvas slip-ons he wore in the car.

Gabriella83 · 16/09/2024 20:50

Many years ago I remember going on a family holiday in the UK. Several families were meeting up at the same place so my Dad was rushing everyone to get ready as we had a long journey ahead. We got three quarters of the way there and were having a toilet break. Dad was searching the back of the minibus and realised he hadn't got his bag. We had to stop at the nearest town and buy him enough clothes etc to last the week. This was about 2001 so wasn't as simple as googling shops near by.We did eventually find somewhere and get him some stuff (which cost a lot of money!) My Dad wasn't amused as he had noone to blame but himself(Although he did try!) We all thought it was highly amusing😂

Trip to Norfolk in May half-term.

Left SE London with 25 degrees and realised 1 1/2 hours later that we forgot all coats.
So as soon as we hit Kings Lynn we bought new coats, DH is still wearing his 9 years later, so not a bad investment.
On the other hand, he lost one of his sandals on the same day and we had to buy new ones 2 hours after buying the coats.

As the weather turned during our stays the new coats were definitely needed.

DD forgot hairbrushes and hairbands so often that we now have brushes in every bag she owns, washkits, school bag, day pack for Explorers or holiday, one suitcase.
