Hypothetically speaking if you came into £8k unexpectedly (and say you didn't need to pay off any debts) what would your fantasy spends be?

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 16/09/2024 18:05

2 week holiday somewhere hot in a fancy pants villa

TokyoSushi · 16/09/2024 18:08

New front door
Shutters
New bed
Patio & lovely garden furniture
New kitchen flooring
Upgrade bathroom

I could spend it x5 in a flash!

SantiagoSky · 16/09/2024 18:16

I would invest it!

Beezknees · 16/09/2024 18:23

Holiday to somewhere I could not afford to go otherwise. A few weeks in Australia and New Zealand maybe.

KevinDeBrioche · 16/09/2024 18:23

Over pay mortgage or add to pension

redtrain123 · 16/09/2024 18:52

Spend a few hundred on treats - theatre/concert tickets, good quality shoes, maybe IT, and save the rest.

Ohhh I just spent some savings on a wheelchair and it was the best money ever spent. I feel like it's given me a bit of my life back.
I felt very lucky to have money spare. Well it wasn't really spare as it could have been spent on other things but my husband understood how much I needed it.

I would definitely say it is worth trying turn2us grant search though as some people with my condition have been successful getting wheelchairs that way

I'm incredibly lucky to have a functional wheelchair for day to day that I used savings for, I just daydream over the ones that would give me access to the great outdoors!
Good to share the info though

ShiftySquirrel · 16/09/2024 19:31

I'd get a decent laptop (£2k) and an ok second hand car (£6k).
Both would increase my earning potential, certainly if I didn't have to work in walking distance!

My mum is hard hearing, her hearing aids costs a small fortune but luckily she is able to save for the part which isn't covered by her insurance.

She sees them as a necessity, her life is so much better with her in-ear computer as she calls them.

It's a shame that vital aids are so expensive and not being able to afford them restrict the life of their user.

DappledOliveGroves · 16/09/2024 19:41

Tummy tuck.

WinterCarlisle · 16/09/2024 19:55

New driveway, dullsville but ours is shit

Dashel · 16/09/2024 20:00

With no mortgage and no debt and sufficient savings, I would probably want to put in my pension, but DH would probably grumble and it would go into the holiday budget for something extra amazing or for a new kitchen or some “fun”

Hedjwitch · 16/09/2024 20:05

Pay off mortgage or put in savings.
Though I would be tempted to spend a chunk on dental implants for my missing front teeth.
Oh,and a wee treat of shoes or boots from Embassy London.

Washingupdone · 16/09/2024 20:41

Help my children and trust funds for grandchildren’s education.

QualifyingEdition · 16/09/2024 20:42

A PhD

louderthan · 16/09/2024 20:44

Holiday
Intensive driving course/money towards a car
I would probably buy something completely frivolous and unnecessary but that would bring me joy; for me it would be a handbag or jewellery

Rapunzel91 · 16/09/2024 21:23

Premium bonds or pensions (sorry, boring).

Teenagerantruns · 16/09/2024 21:26

If l had to spend it, definitely amazing holiday or two. In reality l would probaley just chuck it in savings, my future pension is shit and l will need every penny l can get in 10 years

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 16/09/2024 21:26

Pension.

And a new handbag.

Wond3rment · 16/09/2024 21:51

If I am to be sensible, I would overpay my mortgage.

If I can treat myself, I would invest in some lovely jewellery or get some cosmetic work done on my neck area.

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind · 16/09/2024 21:51

A new wheelchair

IDontHateRainbows · 16/09/2024 21:54

I'd buy a campervan, or a micro camper.

If I didn't have enough I'd rent one for the summer

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 16/09/2024 21:56

Fun choice - holiday to Argentina.

Boring choice - new windows.

Pebbles16 · 16/09/2024 21:57

Well sensible me would put it into the kitchen refurb fund but it would likely to be travel...my greatest joy
