4yo boy - favourite toys

I’m on the hunt for inspiration! DSs 4th birthday is a few weeks before Christmas so I’m starting to think of what to get him. He has plenty of toys so certainly doesn’t need masses - I’d rather get a few bits for each occasion that he’ll love and put some cash in his bank for when he’s older, but I’m fresh out of ideas 😅

Current things he enjoys: magnetiles (he has loads), duplo, cars & garage/ramp, board games, car/truck building sets, Yoto story player, Brio train set, role play (especially shops/restaurants - he has a till and a cooker)

Hes not big into many characters but will occasionally ask to watch tv and tends to go for Mickey Mouse, Paw Patrol or Thomas the Tank.

Any inspiration would be appreciated 😊 what does your child love/get lots of use out of?

stomp rockets

At that age DS(6) was car mad (still is) so most of his presents were Hot Wheels. He's got hundreds of the normal sized cars, but he adores the HW monster trucks as well. They can take a lot of crashing!

We also got him his first Lego at 4, because he kept trying to steal DD's... He liked Duplo as well, but the 4+ sets are perfect for that age. Not too fiddly, easier instructions, smaller sets. He still likes building them now, even though he has much more complicated sets!

Does he have a whiteboard/chalkboard? I bought one for DD(10) from IKEA when she was 3, it's still the most used toy in our house, by both DC.

My 4 year old has a remote control monster truck that he loves! It’s all terrain so can take out in the woods etc

Following as my son is also 4 close to Xmas but some of his current favourite toys are:
Hot wheels ultimate garage
Vtech Marble rush

Thanks all 😊

@parentingisstressful he has a stomp rocket but isn’t overly fussed by it!

@CoodleMoodle Lego is a good idea 👍🏻 he loves building so that will go down well. I’ll have a look at the 4+ sets.

He does have a chalkboard and a whiteboard actually (ikea easel that he got last Christmas and a small whiteboard I got him when he started showing interest in practicing his numbers and letters).

Remote control monster truck sounds great @Mrc12 👍🏻 especially one that can handle all terrain! Do you mind telling me what one your DC has?

@NatalieH2220 Mine loves his car garage too. He absolutely loves playing with a marble run too and plays with one loads at nursery. Hes struggling a bit just now with separation anxiety when going to nursery so I’m trying to avoid any toys that he loves playing with there so that it keeps them fun for him if that makes sense 😅

DS likes playmobil, especially animal/zoo ones. Last year we also got him a playmobil animal advent calendar which he loved and helped to build up our collection of animals!

Stumbled across this thread whilst looking for inspiration for my DS 4th birthday. I'd recommend remote control monster truck too. DS has asked for the tiger shark one someone linked previously in the thread. He also loves the remote control grave digger which is brilliant, works on snow, sand and water. I got in the black friday sale on amazon for £35 which was a bargain.
Also recommend Kids Knex, Ways to Play road and DS still loves playdoh sets.

littleoldme3 · 04/10/2024 09:47

@Whisperingangel1 I got the remote control tiger shark truck on a fab deal so it’s away for either bday or Christmas 😊
He actually has K’Nex and loves them but only has a small set and says he’d like to build bigger things so another set to expand that is a good shout 😊

I’ve also picked up a 4+ Lego set, playdoh set, some of the Orchard toys games (which we love!) and a few new cards for his Yoto player 😊

Following for inspiration, I'm thinking knex and Lego and marble rush plus books for mine

Whisperingangel1 · 09/10/2024 06:21

@littleoldme3 can I ask which Orchard toys games you recommend? We have a few and DS loves them but I'd like to get some more.
Amazon have knex on offer in the prime sale today if you want some more. And playdoh too, I just ordered the hulk marvel squish and squash set and I think he will love that. Oh and kinetic sand is on offer too.
