Hello Everyone,
I am seeking your advice to help one of my friends.
She says that her husband bought a car from his friend in 2008, she gave the cash to her husband to pay and the husband told her that he paid to his friend but now out of blue, in 2024, he contacted my friend and claimed that her husband has not paid him yet. Even the seller's wife and son threatened her as she handles all the household finance.

There's no proof that he paid him due to paying by cash.

So where do the both party stand from legal sides? Can the seller report her husband saying he hasn't paid? Can she report the seller, his wife and son for threatening??

Looking for your response please.
Thank you

It is 16 years since presumably the car was put into your husband's name as the registered keeper. Unless your husband had acknowledged the debt in the meantime, the seller is out of time to call in the debt.

The seller can try to bring a claim in the small claims court, but hugely unlikely to succeed unless there is more going on.
