Escitalopram, has anyone tried this?

I have tried various antidepressants but they all upset my digestive system as I have chronic IBS.

My GP has suggested Escitalopram and has also suggested that I cut them in half and micro dose to start with.

What has been your experience of this medication?

It is really effective for me
I was on citalopram but it really upset my tummy

Gettingbysomehow · 15/09/2024 16:53

It saved my life. I don't have any side effects from it and I have sideffects from nearly every drug I've tried.

How has your tummy been on the Escitalopram?

That's really encouraging, thanks.

I’m on 10mg daily and have been for over a year. It’s dramatically improved my anxiety. I started on 5mg for a few weeks and upped to 10mg which is a very low dose but effective for me. I’ve had no issues with my stomach or any other side effects. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

@WearsblackLoveschocolateAvoidspeople
My tummy is absolutely fine on Escitalopram and I'm on maximum dose

dizzydizzydizzy · 15/09/2024 17:09

I found it very effective for anxiety. I was on a 20mg dose and it did make my sleep worse but that was ok when I went to 10mg. No tummy issues.

CrunchySnow · 15/09/2024 17:11

I'm on 10mg and haven't noticed any side effects apart from dizziness in the first couple of days

Deliiciousllydifffident · 15/09/2024 17:15

Taking even a small dose put me in hospital, with a violent stomach upset. My GP warned me they could upset me stomach but to stick with them as the side effects wear off.

Have you tried Mirtazapine? They don’t upset my stomach at all.

WhatsitWiggle · 15/09/2024 17:42

No stomach upset. 20mg made me feel floaty and out of it, but 10mg is fine (started initially on 5mg but that didn't help at all)

Vanderpumpblues981 · 15/09/2024 18:04

I've got crohns disease and I take 10mg Escitaloprám daily. Hasn't exacerbated my crohns symptoms and it's done absolute wonders for my mental health.

Thanks everyone, that's reassuring.

Deliiciousllydifffident oh no that sounds dreadful, where you in hospital long with it? Funny how different we all are with meds. Mirtazapine made me feel like a complete zombie, I couldn't keep my eyes open and it put my mum in hospital with serotonin syndrome, she had uncontrollable head shaking and she couldn't speak, we thought she'd had a stroke.
