Instagram problem in relationship

I just need to know whether the list that you're following has the most recently visited profile at the top or whether it's a random algorithm. I'm not a user so I'm clueless. Partner has been following certain accounts but denies that he's been looking at them recently, says he hasn't looked in months, the list is totally random. Anyone know?

from my knowledge it’s not the most recently viewed but the most interacted with. I’ve just gone on my following list and it shows people I tag, message and view the most - my best friends and sister etc

You can sort by latest followed, if that helps?

Just checked mine, top 3 are the last three followed (but not in order), then it goes random. Person #5 I followed at least 8 years ago and never interact with!

It depends if you’re asking from the POV of viewing this lists logged in to your boyfriends account, or the lists visible to other people - I.e. other IG users, users on the web page, through other platforms, etc.

Viewing as a third party doesn’t offer you any ordering or filtration options, and I’m lead to believe that Instagram randomly shuffles these so that it’s very difficult for a third party to try to make any extrapolations about following order/degree of interaction/reciprocity, etc.

why are you digging around checking who he follows on insta? is that a normal thing to do? i very rarely look at my DH's socials and really have neither the time or inclination to be looking at his interactions under a micro-scope.

if you don't trust him and he has form for lying to you.. then leave!

To be honest it looks pretty random to me. I follow almost 3000 people and have about 15k followers, and while those I follow it lists first are accounts who've shown up in my feed, I haven't necessarily interacted with them - and some are people/ accounts who have interacted with me (one of the ones at the top only posts about once a year.) The Insta algorithm is really weird.
