Hi. I'm thinking of doing this walk soon but its an area I'm totally unfamiliar with and the information online is a bit sketchy! Has anyone done this recently? I'm wondering if there are any canal side refreshment places? Is it best to start at Sowerby or Hebden bridge? Thanks to anyone with local knowledge!

Bumping because that sounds like a lovely walk to do, and if you get replies and advice, it would be something to consider booking a trip over that way for. I did love Gentleman Jack, and have had many lovely trips to Yorkshire over the years, another one must be due soon!

Hi! We did the walk a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it! We did it from Sowerby to Hebden on a glorious sunny day. (I think it was probably the last one we had!) The walk was almost all canal side with very brief detours onto the road maybe twice. There were a few boats around and the usual ducks and geese. We saw fish in the canal too. There were lots of trees along the way so I imagine the autumn colours will be beautiful now and some great views too. It took us about an hour and 3/4 to cover the route which is about 6 miles. I did notice a sign for a café or a pub at some point but it was off the pathway into a village and as we didn't need a 'comfort break' we didn't take a lot of notice! The only downside is the bikes. Mostly they rang their bell if they needed us to step back and were polite and friendly. But there were the odd few who flew along at alarming speeds with little consideration for us walkers! People with kids or dogs were probably most at risk! Once we were in Hebden Bridge we found a pub for a refreshing pint! I would love to do the walk again.
