I have just discovered that the numbers in the toaster indicate the number of minutes it toasts for.

What discoveries did you recently made that shocked you?

I can't think of anything that I'd leave in for 8 minutes either, unless I was trying to cremate it.

I played Monopoly from a young age, but it was a long time before I realised that some dice totals come up more often than others (7 being the most often, as there are more ways to make it than other numbers). I didn't clock that until I did GCSE maths, and then thought about how I could have used it to my advantage, and won far more games!

And "I was today years old" is an awful bastardisation of the English language.

It's 'banana for scale', and it's originally from Imgur. Now a well known internet joke.

Rather like @Crunchymum the only bit of your post I understand is your bizarre pronouncement that the numbers on the toaster relate to minutes. On some perhaps, by no means all.

I clicked on the thread hoping to be enlightened by what "I was today years old" meant. I still don't understand. I wonder if @SuffolkMumof2 was trying to say that despite being quite grown up, she realised a simple fact today that most grown ups already know.

I have a Breville and it's definitely not minutes. I just timed it. Setting 6, 3 mins!

Of course, does anyone with a toaster that goes up to 5 think ithat it's actually going for 5 minutes, think about how long that is, unless it's the world weediest toaster it would be like charcoal when it pops up 😁

Well this is disappointing. I was hoping to feel smug or enlightened by things posters have only recently learned. That’s been spoiled by people either completely missing the point of the thread or nit picking. Seems it’s a grumpy Sunday for a few.
