Food delivery drivers side hustles

So I had my delivery late last night and after I'd unpacked it I was giving the driver his last crate back when he started to try and sell me his side hustle (his words, not mine). He started by saying every driver has one, sign of the times etc and that I might be interested in it, but not actually getting to the point of what he was selling. I guess he could see I wasn't giving much chat back, so he then reached inside his high vis gilet thing and gave me a crumpled up folded bit of A4. It was a letter about switching energy and had all his personal details on it like his name, address and phone number etc, and then telling me he'd come back to my house in a week or so to discuss!

Strangely enough this wasn't even the first time I've been sold to on the doorstep by the same shops driver. But the last time they were selling beauty & perfume type stuff and he talked at me for way too long, that this time I just wasn't giving him any of my time.

Anyone else had this?

Most of the drivers who come to us are on such tight targets there’s no way they’d have time to chat for more than about 10 seconds.

I thought you meant he was selling drugs!

I thought drugs too!

He did say I was his last stop when I said it was getting late

Sounds like Utility Warehouse MLM scheme?

In some ways it makes sense because he is actually visiting people’s houses, but obviously it’s an MLM so I’m not sure whether it would actually result in cheaper utilities for anyone…

Well this sounds like absolute bollocks

JonsDragonQueen · 14/09/2024 21:30

It was Utility Warehouse!

Sadly it's true, must just be my area then.

Some electric companies have a refer a friend scheme and I think both people get a £50 voucher or something. Was it like that, with a code to sign up with?

I've never had this- but then I only use places with their own drivers- never used uber, just eat etc. Was he from one of those?

I did have something similar during lockdown. Supermarket's own delivery man tried to get me to sign up for some alternative health thing, said he'd come round with the literature the next day and I told him not to.
