Do people use a meat thermometer to check sausages and burgers are properly cooked?

We always just cook for roughly the right time and split one open to check it “looks “ cooked. But I was watching rich kids, skint holiday the other day and they were on a caravan holiday and had a meat thermometer for all their cooking. I wondered if this was something others do?

I occasionally use one if I'm cooking burgers from frozen. Especially the horrible big fat ones DS1 eats.

I have used one on the barbecue as they can just char the surface more but not in normal cooking

I think it could come in handy to check other things. I do tend to overcook just to be safe.

I have one but I have never used it. So far I've not poisoned anyone.
