Why are you on MN, and how did you get here?

I can't remember exactly but I think it was googling intermittent fasting and reading the posts on here for inspiration.
Now it's become a regular port of call when I need some inspiration for holidays or what to have for dinner! 😅

Have been here for years. I seem to remember seeing something about it on TV when DS was small. Did the ladies who came up with this have a programme on one of the Health channels back in the day? Along with Portland Babies and A Baby Story etc etc (I was obsessed with all these when I was on maternity leave).

SparklyLimeJoker · 14/09/2024 19:17

I saw a poster for the other site when I was at the health visitor with my DC when they were much younger and I misremembered and typed in 'mumsnet' instead of the other way round. That was about 14 years ago I think - could be longer! I stay for the housekeeping and Christmas topics.

Small poster up at my GP practice when pregnant about 22 years ago.

What happened was I had a baby who did not sleep… EVER.
I was demented and desperate and exhausted to my bones. I was a walking corpse.

I begged for help. No one could help, no one. Finally at age 5 and at full time school, my child slept through the night.

In the meantime, I was given some great advice on how to survive this. No one could help with the zero sleep, but they were all there sometimes through the night to offer me some support and solidarity.

I have had love, hate, been ripped to shreds, called names on here and thanked. It’s quite the place!

Crushed23 · 14/09/2024 19:28

My relationship was falling apart and I needed hard, cold advice.

OhshutupBarry · 14/09/2024 19:32

Started off on an AOL parenting chat forum 20 odd years ago and then saw an add for MN. I have been here consistently for all that time. I've learnt so much!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 14/09/2024 19:33

Took a wrong turning on the way to NetMums.

FuzzyDiva · 14/09/2024 19:34

I first joined around 15 years ago when searching about miscarriages and then joined the conception threads. I’ve lost my log ins on several occasions so have had a few new ones over the years.

Dearg · 14/09/2024 19:35

Not a parent. Needed a dive on health and googling brought up MN. Stay because reading about the wider issues people face puts some perspective on my own.

BirthdayRainbow · 14/09/2024 19:37

When I was looking for washable nappies I think. I was pregnant with my son. He's 19 now. I've had a break more than once and for quite a while. I am gearing up for another tbh.

Rigatone · 14/09/2024 19:37

Came for Conception/ TTC.

Stayed for parenting and relationships.

In for the life now for feminism and women's rights.

GetDownkeith · 14/09/2024 19:37

Another poster pm’d me in another baby forum telling me they thought I’d like it here. My baby was around a year old at the time.
I dropped that baby off at university today for the first time!

Thevelvelletes · 14/09/2024 19:40

During redundancy and anxiety, depression Gad diagnosis MN with it's wide subject matters gave me something else to think about.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/09/2024 19:40

Have been here for ages under different names but originally I’m sure I posted about a Breton top and got pasted here for it, maybe it being a then MN staple.

I’m here now as it’s a nice chat site. I’ve been piled on, fairly and unfairly but I now know what and what not gets the vipers rearing up like cobras. I like a good rearing up though from time to time.

Current fave boards are:-

SAB
The paranormal
Chat
the litter tray
sporners corner
relationships

I’ve been staggered by the level of kindness here especially recently when I was mentally unwell. A lot of MNers seem to me to be good eggs or vipers born from good eggs.

I was on the Huggies club website when DS1 was a baby. That was fun, comments were pre moderated and took about 24 hours to appear on the site. So it could be 2 days from posting to seeing a reply.
Then I joined Bounty which was much better.
Joined NM at some point and saw a thread about how awful MN was. So i came for a look. Got my arse absolutely handed to me on a plate and slunk off with my tail between my legs. Then I realised I was wrong, came back and then never left.

LostOnTheWayToManderley · 14/09/2024 19:41

Boinged in years ago from one of the ‘batshit on MN’ re-posting sites. Stayed for Brian from Hull, disbelief at how low some relationship bars are set, and latterly where the perpetually sacked trust fund baby will pop up this week.

spaceshooter · 14/09/2024 19:41

Cannot remember tbh. I know it impressed me and made me a lot more understanding of others and myself on various issues.

Flin · 14/09/2024 19:44

I came from Baby Greenhouse.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 14/09/2024 19:47

I joined shortly after I gave birth when I was stuck at home all day with a small baby and nobody to talk to. Mumsnet used to give me something to do while breastfeeding or trapped in contact naps. I don’t have as much time for it these days as I spend all day chasing a toddler around.

Changed18 · 14/09/2024 19:47

DS was pulling his ear and crying, aged about 8 months. I had no idea and did an online search.
He turns 18 in January…

Amazing- hope you are feeling ok.
My NCT leader gave us booklets with 'useful' tips and this site was one of them. 12 years and counting...

Sethera · 14/09/2024 19:47

I was looking for hysterectomy experiences and some threads came up on Google. After reading threads on that subject I got intrigued by the trending AIBU threads.

Shortly afterwards, I had my hysterectomy and was then laid up for some time afterwards, with the internet as a principal source of company, and after lurking for a while I joined up.

JC03745 · 14/09/2024 19:49

I found netmums when I was finally pregnant after 4yrs TTC- but NIPT showed Patau syndrome. I was on there a year or so, but everyone seemed to be moving to MN because there were more traffic- so I moved too. That was about 6yrs ago.

whatsinmypockets · 14/09/2024 19:51

Became a stepmum and felt like I was going crazy.

Stayed for the endless interesting peeks into other people's lives.

Was chuckling to myself about Brian today in Sainsbo’s when I spied Yoni sanitary towels on the shelf.

Nicnak2223 · 14/09/2024 19:53

I've dipped in and out but I had a false +Pg test just after my honeymoon and then joined to look up conception support. 2 babies and 2 miscarriages multiple BFN months (and 10 years ) later I'm still here....
