Forget going online for something like this. Have you had a recent eye test?

thehungryteacher · 14/09/2024 14:43

Yes I have a recent eyes and optician recommended varifocals

I didn't like the frames they had in stock and I don't want to spend hundreds.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I can confirm!

I bought glasses from Glasses Direct, the prescription just wasn't right, and I really persevered with them.
The other pair kept sliding down my nose.

Long story short: I sent both pairs back, and bought a new pair from good old Spec Savers.

You live and learn!

This makes more sense!

I used reglaze glasses direct not for varifocals but for a string -7 prescription. Something wasnt quite right and I think the optical centres were out. Phil, the owner was a bit of a bawbag over emails so I just vowed never to go back.

Basically sphere is fine for you. PL means no correction needed. Cylinder means you have astigmatism and Axis means what angle they have to put the lens in the frame. How many degrees.

theeyeofdoe · 14/09/2024 14:51

Online varifocals don’t work there are too many measurement which need to be done with a frame on your face. Varifical lenses are also all quite different, some suit some frames/faces and prescriptions.

i once spent a very dull afternoon at work - 3 re-tests for people who had bought varifocals on line, 2 lens check for people who had swapped contact lens brands and were having issues, followed by someone with a severe infection from rinsing them in tap water….

just take your prescription elsewhere.

Go to your nearest Asda opticians £80 per pair, 2 pairs for £120.

Even if it's quite far it's worth the drive.

thehungryteacher · 14/09/2024 15:06

That's all so good thanks!

I did go to Asda for the eye test so will persevere trying to find something there and be less picky!

I found Asda hopeless. Had a feeling the glasses were made up offshore. But they sure are cheap.

thehungryteacher · 18/09/2024 21:14

Ordered 2 pairs from Asda

Said three weeks! @Jagshamesh maybe right about from a cheap export market - the Temu of varifocals

I used to work in an opticians but don’t anymore. I do buy my varifocals from Asda and I have a medium prescription with astigmatism. Lenses are automatically upgraded to thinner at no extra cost and they are fine. Mine took around 6 working days. I would certainly recommend them. I believe they use Shamir as their glazing lab.
