If I do an online shop and they are out of stock on an item and they give me something more expensive will they charge me for it or will they give me the more expensive item and just charge me what I payed for the original

They just charge you the original price of the item you ordered if they substitute.

They won’t charge extra

You can sometimes be lucky and get a great bargain with their system

Morrisons are a rip off they charge you for the cost of the substitute item if its dearer than the one you ordered

Tesco are very good with substitutions I feel. You get an email before the delivery so you know what to expect, if you don’t want the substitution, you just hand it back to the delivery person and you get a refund for the original item. Quite often, especially for fresh produce, they tell you to keep it anyway, a free bonus! This works the same for short shelf life items, I will refuse to accept soft fruits with a short use by date and I always get a refund and the fruit.

If the sub is for a larger product, you only pay for the size you ordered. I got a bargain last delivery, I ordered a 1litre bottle of gin which was on offer, instead they sent me 2 bottles of 75cl gin ( which was not on offer) ie 11/2 litres for the same price - a few extra free glasses for me!
