After some career advice - can anyone help?

Hi everyone
I'm hoping I can get some advice.
I recently left a career I've been in all of my adult life (military) and have found myself in a niche HR role, pretty well paid and in a good company. I'm happy where I am, and whilst I want to progress, I am not looking to leave my company currently.
I'm 39 so still plenty of years of work left to go.
I'm thinking about what I can do to make myself as employable as possible going forward, to set myself up for the next 20 years.
I don't have a degree and was always interested in law, so I'm wondering about doing a part time law degree. Not because I want to be a lawyer, but more to gain knowledge and to just have a degree - which may open some more doors.
Can anyone give advice? Is this a good thing to do? What would you do?
