Did anyone have a "bad" Friday 13th?

My mum was always very superstitious and drilled into me that Friday the 13th was a bad day. I've always found it to be another day but admit I always sort of expect something bad. What are your superstitions about?

My son was born on a Friday the 13th, so for me, it's a lucky day.

Mine too, so I think it lucky as well

Full moon was a bonus

The children were testing at work today but that's more to do with the first full week back rather than the date! I must admit I feel slightly apprehensive when I realise it's Friday 13th.

I wasn’t superstitious, but had a phone call from my mum to pop round and see her after work tonight as she had news she wanted to give me “face to face”. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer today. It’s already spread to her lung. Just had to break the news to my DC who she is extremely close with.

I hadn't realised that it was Friday the 13th.

I was at a work event last night (leaving after midnight) and had all my cash stolen out of my handbag as I was putting on my coat at the cloakroom.

I spent ages on the phone to IT trying to get them to fix an issue, which they eventually managed, only for it to reoccur again half an hour later.

I went to the GP for an appointment I had made for "friday" only to be told it was the Friday three weeks from now, not today.

Oh and I was called a "fucking cunt" but some angry small dicked man in a truck I ended up nose to nose with down a single track lane. He had a passing space just behind him. I had no spaces for ages behind me and a car behind me. I can only think he expected me to levitate out of his way.

I'm not superstitious but....

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2024 22:07

Yep. Really busy at work. Absolutely nothing was as straight forward as it was supposed to be!

Tigerbreadbum · 13/09/2024 22:09

My fall was totally dull and uneventful other than driving past someone as they crashed in to someone’s back garden earlier, I’d say it’s quite unlucky for them

RightOnTheEdge · 13/09/2024 22:23

I'm not superstitious and I think Friday 13th is just another other day,

but, I'd been looking forward to fish and chips for tea all day while I was at work but they were shut for the owners holiday, so I had to order from the pizza shop instead which is always expensive and a bit disappointing.

There was a letter from HMRC in the letterbox saying I owe them £50.80 in tax which has never happened to me before and I need every penny at the moment.

Then the delivery arrived and they didn't send the garlic sauce.

Completely forgot it was Friday 13th ha. Well, I very nearly ran over a cat this morning with taking evading action. Very lucky cat as it darted across the road just at the right time so it didn't get hit by myself or the car approaching the other direction. Couple of seconds either way I think it would have been a goner.

Mines been great - I slept all day and am now MNetting and eating Nik-Naks in bed.

I've just found out that we have 1 month to find a new home because our landlord wants our home back...and we have a baby. We're on low income but on just enough that the council are reluctant to help because we are private renting...

Pre-Christianity, Friday 13th was seen a lucky day and a day to honour the goddess Freya and femininity. It was known as the day of the goddess as we have 13 moon cycles per year and 13 menstrual cycles a year. It’s very linked to nature. But the church made it ‘evil’ as obviously anything sacred to do with women and women’s bodies was seen as evil and unclean 🙄

Beezknees · 13/09/2024 22:39

It's been a normal day for me.

AliceMcK · 13/09/2024 22:44

Love Friday 13th. My DH was born on Friday 13th and I gave birth to my first child on Friday 13th. It’s been nothing but lucky for me. I grew up in a superstitious family too.

Blueuggboots · 13/09/2024 22:49

We completed on our house...it was an awesome day???!!

also got married the first time on 13th of the month, but not a Friday

chyiko · 13/09/2024 22:52

Never thought of it as 'bad', but today fell in the street and scraped a knee and sprained an ankle! Lying in bed now and it still hurts.

DoggoQuestions · 13/09/2024 23:15

Yes, it was a bad day, but not because it's Friday 13th, just because it was a bad day. Yesterday was a bad day too. As was last Thursday and Friday. But Wednesday was good!

TeabySea · 13/09/2024 23:16

I'm not at all superstitious. My late mother was. I used to have to comply with it when I lived at home: not putting umbrellas up indoors (difficult to dry them when it's been pouring), throwing salt over your shoulder if you spilled some, making sure no knives were crossed.
I deliberately flout all these and any others I find out about. With the exception of walking under ladders - if there's someone on one, I'll go around it.

Friday 13th is just another day to me. No better or worse than any other arbitrary date on the calendar.

Gawjus · 13/09/2024 23:27

I had a perfectly normal day.
