Colleague fired

How do you feel when a colleague you've got to know for a while gets fired?

Let's assume you get along with them but they get fired for performance reasons.

Erm well if I like them I'd feel sad. But surely that's obvious?

Sorry to see them go and if we are actual friends keep in touch or just wish them well. So long as it is a fair dismissal.
