Has anyone taken part in a psilocybin ceremony in the UK?

Bollyhood · 13/09/2024 14:11

I'm fully aware that it's illegal in the UK to hold ceremonies where larger doses of psilocybin are taken for 'medicinal' purposes. But, of course, I know it goes on.

I wonder if anyone had taken part, or worked with a 'guide'.

No judgements, just input. Thanks

Do you really think MN is the best place to find psychedelic mushroom takers for your newspaper article ?

Bollyhood · 13/09/2024 14:32

I am absolutely not a journalist. Why is that always the assumption when you ask anything that is slightly controversial!

Nothing to do with ‘controversial’. It’s when someone asks a question that sounds like it would provide easy padding for an article with no effort needed, and doesn’t offer anything about themselves, and why they’re interested in whether you’ve had a threesome/ started your own business while on fake sick leave/cheated in an exam.

I am interested in plant medicines. I am interested in potentially finding a ceremony. I've done Ayahuasca and San Pedro and I'd like to try Psilocybin next. They've really helped me grapple with some life stuff, along with therapy.

There. I hope that I've offered up enough

But my original question still stands even if you're not a journalist- do you truly think that MN is the place to find a magic mushroom ceremony? 😒

TheWayTheLightFalls · 13/09/2024 14:47

If you search psilocybin on here there are a few discussion threads. Otherwise the various UK myco groups on Facebook are your best bet.

That's very much, I'll have a look.

FYI, they're not really called magic mushrooms anymore.

If by "ceremony" you mean "a load of crusties throwing shapes and giggling hilariously on a wet Welsh hillside", indeed I have 😆

FYI , they're still definitely called magic mushrooms down 'ere.

I think the only ‘ceremony’ when I did them (beach in Ireland, sometime in the 90s) was the non-pukers holding back the hair of the pukers, and us all feeling we were personally responsible for splendour of the sunrise.

Apart from the guy who thought he’d mislaid something and who was running round panic-searching for whatever it was. Probably his hand or something.

It’s clear the OP is not talking about recreational drug use - why do some of the posters act so stupid about it? Such immature responses. And before you pile on, clinical trials are clear on how psilocybin can be transformative for mental health.

Middle class recreational drug use.

Because a lot of us in the so called "new age community" are sick of the back teeth of things that used to be free, innocent fun for us packaged up as po faced, expensive woo nonsense and sold back to us for an extortionate sum by some grifter.

Having a giggle with your mates on a sunny hillside: free
Researching the effects of magic mushrooms, quietly picking your own and microdosing: free

Attending a "psilocybin ceremony" that will almost invariably be in a yurt, involve gongs and an invitation to hug a complete stranger: ker ching.

So don’t buy into what you don’t like! No one is asking you too.

And for the record, I’ve met tons of ‘new age/hippies’ who’ve charged way too much for their services or stuff and been crap at it - under the guise of new age/hippy.

why can’t you just let someone post a question without being so judgemental? If the question annoys you, walk on by.

Well yes, your comment about new age hippies is precisely the point I was making...

I was talking about you, as you act like a disgruntled person, representing that community.

anyway, I can’t be arsed. I’m sure you were active on another thread about ayahuasca, getting yourself in a pickle about someone doing that.

Nope. I know nothing about ayahuasca, although I gather that ayahuasca tourism has done quite a lot of damage to indigenous communities in South America.

tygertygers · 13/09/2024 18:13

I would have a search on Reddit, OP. There are communities on there discussing this but can't tell you how much is UK specific.

Side note - I'm in a few Reddit communities now, it's proving to be a much more pleasant experience than MN lately with all the posters that can't wait to take you down on each thread.

Yes, I imagine it’s true - damaging to local communities like most tourism.

? It doesn't sound like the OP is a journalist at all. It sounds like she's asking a genuine question. What a strange thing to automatically assume.
