I thought exactly the same as you when I saw it this morning, OP. Just bizarre.

It's one of about 30 images taken on board the plane by news agency photographers when they were in their way to Washington. It's not that weird, if they were staging it would have had perfect facial expressions and everyone would have been ignoring the camera.

It's being used because it's a new image and they're probably sick of the same ones over and over again. And it's down to whoever is on the news desk on the day which image is used. Sometimes they are more flattering than others.

It's not that deep, I've seen way, way worse.

Yes but the west should still allow Ukraine to use missiles against Russian military targets.

They started this and the only way to deal with Putin is with strength.

All ok for Russia to use missiles made with Indian, chinese parts and for them to use missiles provided by Iran and NK, most against civilian targets.

If Putin doesn't want western missiles used against him, then stop attacking hospitals power stations shopping centres......

I have. But the OP seems to think a perfectly normal press pack picture is Starmer being uniquely weird, so I thought I'd offer her some slightly more up to date amunition.

It's at least a change from the regular photos of Starmer, or another politician in construction cosplay. Hat hard and hi vis jacket (both Tory and Labour have done this). I find those beyond irritating.

It does look somewhat like a stock image. Very weird and awkward, but then gathering round someone on a plane and talking to them is a weird and awkward thing to do.

I bet if you googled "stock image of a business meeting" you'd get lots of shuttershock pictures with the same vibe.
