Have you ever lived on the seafront?

I've lived about 5/10 minutes walk from the sea when I was a child, but I've never actually lived on the seafront and dream of being able to do so.

If you've lived on the seafront, as in the beach is right outside your front door, what is it like?

I lived almost on the seafront til recently (just had to cross one road to reach it - the houses facing mine were directly on the seafront). Loved the view, loved the gulls, loved seeing seals and gannets from my window, didn't mind the windy weather. Also never saw anything I'd describe as a hairy beach spider despite being obsessively interested in wildlife of all kinds and spending loads of time on the beach. Moved to the next town along and now live a bit further back, still have sea views but not quite as close. I swim in the sea year-round but don't shriek - some of us are quiet and considerate!

The salty air can be a nightmare for anything metal, I'm a couple of roads away and cars / swing sets etc rust faster. Friends on the beachfront have issues with door locks etc.

Not near a beach but I live on the coast and fuck me it is windy here. Absolutely no point in doing your hair each day because it just gets destroyed as soon as you set foot outside.

Totally agree.

Not beach, but I live on a cliff top overlooking the sea in Australia. It’s great, the sea always looks different, there are boats going by, dolphins, seals, birds. I can look out there for hours. No issues with salt or corrosion. I love it.

We’ve lived on the seafront for a few years now and I absolutely love it. This is from our lounge window

My dog also appreciates the view and that he gets to swim every day Grin

I like the idea of it but the coast near us is flat and the climate change predictions for it are grim. I guess the cities will get flood defences but we aren't going to manage to protect everywhere

I'm.always surprised people in low lying coastal areas aren't more environmentally conscious here (compared to the Dutch for instance)

I’ve never lived beach front, but I am getting closer! I live 15 minutes walk from this beach though so I am happy enough with that. I took this photo today as it was my first swim of the season ( I an in Perth, Australia). I’ve never had any issues, except the windows get filthy with salt. When I win the lotto I might go beach front, as I am very jealous of the people who I see crossing the road to the beach in their bathers and towel for their daily swim.

Sigh I would never tire of that view. Beach spiders or no beach spiders.
