Naked people in town.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/09/2024 17:16

Am I being judgemental or what? 2 self styled naturists have been hanging out naked in my town, a man and a woman, and I do feel particularly affronted because there it is all hanging out in front of all the local kids and it was obvious people felt uncomfortable especially at the cafe they stopped in at.
When I protested I got a right mouthful and told I am "ill". But quite frankly I think kids should be able to go to the shops without being confronted by naked people, it's bloody freezing as well,.I've got 2 jumpers on.They are posting pics of themselves all over the local facebook pages of their "lifestyle".
The joke of it is I am a naturist myself but I keep my fat backside within the confines of my club and only go there when it's warm to sunbathe, enjoy the summer and swim - they have a lovely pool. The rest of the time I have my clothes on.
You would not catch me walking naked through the high street. A lot of us older naturists are pretty conservative like that.
I feel really cross about it and I don't normal allow myself to be bothered by what other people do but there is a bloody limit.
What does everyone think.

There are a couple of these people in Chorley. They are in their 60s and cycle naked everywhere. All through the town centre and the local roads, particularly down the canal towpath where they live. People are always posting on the local Facebook page that they've been shocked to see them hanging about the canal area, when they've been out for a walk. I didn't think it was allowed but it must be as they are always doing it. As a previous poster said, when does being naked in public become indecent exposure?

"Hanging about"

EPankhurst · 12/09/2024 19:38

You can complain to the police online as a non-emergency. And you can and should) complain to the cafe staff. Quite apart from public decency (which they DO need to respect) anything else how unhygienic!

Georgyporky · 12/09/2024 19:46

I think I'd just burst into hysterical laughter, whilst pointing at them.

Heelworkhero · 12/09/2024 19:48

I know the couple personally that you’re talking about and they’re doing nothing wrong.
There’s no law against nudity, only lewd behaviour, which is completely different.
They’re challenging social norms.

The businesses they frequent are agreeable to them visiting nude

What actually happens if someone sees a penis or a vulva? Nothing!!!!

We are so horribly afraid of nudity in the UK, but there’s no reason to be.

However, highly sexualised images and clothing everywhere is ok apparently ……

Wolfpa · 12/09/2024 20:00

You see naked people in my city all the time, it’s nothing new. It’s not illegal I would just leave them too it. They are doing no harm.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/09/2024 19:17

No we all go a club with a very high wall round it. Not in the least public. I don't know what the others do I've never asked them.

That’s unusual, most of them like to get it out in public . In front of some poor sod swimming pool attendant, or in a sectioned off beach. I think for many unless they are showing others their bits they don’t feel they are doing it right; I guess the good news is you all just show it to each other.

Most of the blokes I know would walk up and thump a naked man walking around in front of their kids/ wife/ gf/mum.

Wow really?

NewGreenDuck · 12/09/2024 20:16

Why don't I have a right to not see random naked people? If I'm desperate to see nudity there are places I could go to see a bloke with his meat and 2 veg out. So why should I be forced to see it?

nmcha · 12/09/2024 20:16

Georgyporky · 12/09/2024 19:46

I think I'd just burst into hysterical laughter, whilst pointing at them.

People always say this but that's exactly what gets some of them off.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/09/2024 20:23

Last year in central London I saw at least a hundred naked cyclists (nearly all male) pootling down Piccadilly. It was a baking hot June day - I did wonder how many sunburnt willies there were going to be at the end of it.

Piccadilly was heaving with people, and from all I could tell, everyone found it hilarious.

FrostFlowers2025 · 12/09/2024 20:42

If people were just naked walking through town, I would think it's a little weird, but would not care much. I would hate to be in the same cafe as them, with them sitting their naked butts down on chairs that other people also use. It's gross.

theboywantstogoupthefield · 12/09/2024 20:51

I thought it was against the law in public ?

DietQueen2023 · 12/09/2024 21:16

greenshade · 12/09/2024 17:36

I hope this is not the new trend.
Mind you what ive seen some women and young ladys they might as well be naked.
When i protested i got a right mouth full 😂.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Octavia64 · 12/09/2024 21:19

Way too cold if you ask me.

Personally it's been about 10 degrees and pissing it down with rain here so anyone naked round here would be very wet and very cold.

theboywantstogoupthefield · 12/09/2024 20:51

I thought it was against the law in public ?

It isn't!

Cavend · 12/09/2024 21:24

A previous poster mentioned that some young ladies might as well be naked. I was in Tesco the other day and a young girl entered, wearing scrunch bum leggings and a barely there crop top, both in cream. I'm sure some males would love it, but honestly, she should have been arrested, everything was on show.

XenoBitch · 12/09/2024 21:24

It is not against the law to be naked in public unless you are deliberately setting out to cause offence/harm (and no, being middle aged is not seeking to cause offence no matter how awful you think a middle aged body is).

So just walking about in the nude is ok.. totally different to going up to a stranger and getting your todger out.

Mum2jenny · 12/09/2024 21:29

Live and let live.
The cold weather will surely put them off.
I needed a warm coat in before I went out today!

HotAsSatansBalls · 12/09/2024 21:39

Oldraver · 12/09/2024 18:23

I came across two walking in the New Forest

We were actually looking for snakes 🤣

It’s not every day you encounter a One-Eyed Trouser Snake away from its usual habitat, let alone two! I hope they didn’t spit at you … or wink! 🙈

scalt · 12/09/2024 21:42

A Radio 4 report on the Naked Rambler a few years ago ended with these words:
"He has no intention of stopping.
He'll wander up hill, down dale,
and in all certainty, back to jail."

Saxly · 12/09/2024 18:53

This has reminded me - my Ds saw a snake this afternoon when he was walking the dog.

My late dad had a huge crisis once when he saw a snake . Shouted and shouted for my mum. Turned out it was a long bit of shoelace from my brothers trainers. We laughed til the tears ran down our faces. He's been gone for nearly 8 years. The snake talk brought back a lovely memory. Thank you

Cavend · 12/09/2024 21:47

Have just read the Wikipedia page on Stephen Gough, the UK naked rambler, and he sounds so odd, in that, after so many convictions after walking around naked, he always leaves prison naked on release, and is re-arrested.
The article does not mention how he earns his living, just said he was a former soldier and driver.
He has been assessed by a psycologist, who found no evidence of mental illness, but he broke down once in court.

CormorantStrikesBack · 12/09/2024 21:50

DadJoke · 12/09/2024 17:52

I am surprised they haven’t been arrested. Public nudity is illegal.

According to my local police it isn’t. There’s some blokes near me who are always in the woods naked. I now feel I can’t go there. How am I to know who’s a threat and who isn’t? As a solo woman it’s frightening.

the police say it’s only illegal if their intent is to cause distress. The fact I am distressed is apparently immaterial.

CormorantStrikesBack · 12/09/2024 21:52

Pinkmagic1 · 12/09/2024 18:56

There is one not far from me. He is always being reported, but the police won't do anything as he is apparently a naturist and not doing it to cause distress. However his walks always seem to be conveniently coincided with the local schools finishing time. Pervert at worst, exhibitionist at best if you ask me.

Hiding in plain sight

Dabralor · 12/09/2024 21:53

Urgh, can't imagine the horror of suddenly encountering all those wobbly bits outside Poundland of an afternoon.

I think they will probs be slapped with an Asbo soon enough, hopefully before the winter sets in for their sakes 🥶
