Reception children and school lunches

Is it normal for reception children to not eat much of their lunch in the first week of joining?

My DS isn't eating much (according to him!) and he's usually a good eater. Just wondering if this was to be expected and he'll settle down soon?

Totally normal IME, and why they're all 'starving' when they get out of school. Far more exciting things to be doing than eating.

Yes, absolutely normal ime! I worked in EYFS (now y1) & am also a MDSA & there are always some who will eat literally nothing even with encouragement & the lure of stickers.
