Hi,

we have two trofast units and our son is soon turning 5 and we have seen the hack of where you turn it into a desk by adding a plank of wood on the top, has anyone done this and is it functional or should I not bother and just buy him a desk ?

pic attached for reference

thanks

It really isn't a 'hack'. It's just using the trofast units as the pedestals for a desk. IKEA sell desk tops for precisely this kind of thing. My own desk is 2 Alex units with a desk top on them. You just need to ensure you choose the right size desk top, and I suggest securing it to the trofast units. I haven't done that with my desk as only I use it, but it can move if I lean on it.

Yh I know you can get the wood that’s not a problem, I’m just wanting feedback from people who may have done this for their children and if they find it functional due to height and stuff but thanks for your feedback 🙂

We’ve just built a desk for our son with kallax units. He’s 7, nearly 8 and quite tall. . Seems to work well, it’s a good size for me to use too.
