What to do with half-used bottles of perfume?

KStockHERO · 12/09/2024 13:00

I've got about five bottles of perfume that are half-used.

I bought them before Covid when I was an avid perfume-wearer. But since Covid, I've found perfumes really difficult to get along with. At the moment I'm using them as toilet spray 😬

Most places won't take them because they're half-used.
Any ideas for what I can do with them? Using them for post-poo spritzing seems a bit extravagant!

You might get buyers on ebay/vinted

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 12/09/2024 13:02

Put them on vinted! Sell them for a pound each or as a bundle for £2.

KStockHERO · 12/09/2024 13:04

Why the fuck didn't I think of Vinted or Ebay?! Thank you!

Vinted is brilliant that way, isn't it? I love it because, although you won't get rich, you get a few bob and nothing goes to waste, someone else is happy with your dust collectors. You free up space. Everyone wins. Good luck! And believe me, young people will buy them! My teen DD loves perfume. But it's way too expensive and buying half used bottles on vinted has given her a happy little collection.

Sorry to resurrect an old-ish thread.

I posted on Vinted and got sternly told off for posting used beauty products 😥
Ebay has a similar policy of no used beauty products which includes perfume.

So, any other ideas how I might off-load these?

Oh - that does seem strange, I've seen partially used advertised (unless it was before they were pulled?)

DisplayPurposesOnly · 16/09/2024 13:25

Olio?

showersandflowers · 16/09/2024 13:27

Second Olio.

3LittlePiggs · 16/09/2024 13:37

Had the same issue on Vinted, you can only put perfume on as 'new with tags'.

Some charity shops take them and some don't. It might be worth asking around local ones. You could also offer/sell on a local FB selling group.

Cantonet · 16/09/2024 13:40

I've sold loads of partially used niche perfumes on eBay. You just list under the not new section.

SpiderGwen · 16/09/2024 13:40

Ask your mates?

One of my friends found that post-menopause she hated the smell of a perfume on her own skin that she used to love (she still liked it on others). She gave her partially used bottle and scented body lotion to me - lucky me!

HarpyBirthday · 16/09/2024 13:45

I've sold them on ebay but you have to sell them as 'New, other' . Ones i sold were barely used but had been opened and sitting in the bathroom cabinet for a few years.
Then to post them you have to say they're in their original packaging.

Saying that, they always sold really well and got good feedback from buyers.

As pp said, charity shops may accept them.

Local fb groups?

Just4thisthreadtoday · 16/09/2024 13:46

@KStockHERO

Do YOU get any pleasure out of using them as toilet spray or as room sprays? If you do I'd just use them around the house. (I'd probably put them on fabric then put on the radiators.)

if you don't I'd just give them to friends and tell them to pass on any they're not keen on

🤷🏻‍♀️

Imperfectionist · 16/09/2024 13:47

Give them to a friend or neighbour, or continue to use as air freshener.

hereismydog · 16/09/2024 13:50

Women’s refuge or homeless shelter? The shelter I used to volunteer at had a variety of nice smellies in stock for service users to use when they showered on-site, and we would have welcomed perfumes Smile

landris · 16/09/2024 14:05

Spray them liberally onto dangly car air fresheners that have faded a bit and lost their own scent. Likewise spray onto old socks balled up and stuffed inside shoes or boots.

WordInYourShellLike · 16/09/2024 14:05

If you're happy to give them away, you could put them on Freegle - www.ilovefreegle.org/

yeesh · 16/09/2024 14:17

Are they 5 years old and open? Perfume does go off and start to smell different tbh

veritasverity · 16/09/2024 14:39

I have little cotton bags stuffed with cotton wool which hang on my clothes hangers. I spray old perfume onto the bags, and then hang my clothes up. Clothes (and wardrobe) always smell pleasant, I 'refresh' the bags regularly.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/09/2024 15:09

I’ve bought and sold quite a few used perfumes on eBay.
you have to list them as ‘new other’
then just describe accurately in the description.

User628291938949 · 16/09/2024 21:40

What perfumes are they? I am obsessed so I'll buy them

FelicityBeedle · 16/09/2024 21:42

I accidentally started a wee beauty corner at work, brought in lots of gifts I wouldn’t use and perfume I didn’t like and now everyone does, just taking home what they like. Could you take them into work? Or offer to friends on Facebook?

Happierthaneverr · 16/09/2024 21:44

Definitely Olio!

KStockHERO · 17/09/2024 09:42

Thanks everyone - great ideas!. I did list them on Vinted as "New With Tags" - that was the only option. But then I got a very stern message that they'd been pulled and I was in breach of the rules. Yikes.

I'm not altogether that keen on perfume at all any more so I'd rather get rid than use them as air fresheners or in the wardrobe and what have you.

@User628291938949
I've got CK Eternity Now, CK One Shock, CK In2U, DKNY Women, SJP Lovely, SJP NYC body mist. All about half or two thirds full 🙃
